[ a bit of awkward fumbling introduces the video before Madoka's face appears, she settles back to her place on the floor and smiles. ] Um- hello everyone!

With Christmas gone by and New Years Eve today, I couldn't help but think about all of the other holidays or traditions from other worlds. I already know a lot about the ones on Earth, or well... the ones in Japan and some ones outside of it like Thanksgiving but I never get to hear about any of the special days in the worlds outside of Earth. [ she laughs. ] Or maybe I'm just not listening well enough to the network.

So maybe you can tell me, while we're waiting for the New Year to begin, about your the days you celebrate back home. Perhaps we could make our own calendar here, full of holidays that represent us all.

[ she pauses briefly, her smile softening a fraction. ] I know we're in the middle of a war here and maybe it's childish, but I can't help but think that things from home... even little ones like this can bring some joy to all of us here.

[If your character was reading the network at just the right time or is some kind of tech ace, they might have caught the original content of Sue's post--a mundane announcement that she's back from a supply mission and apparently "the good shampoo" is now available again...and pointedly no mention of the mutiny.

However, Tony Stark got to it almost immediately, and now it's a kitten picture.

Sue has no idea this has happened.]

On Earth - my Earth, anyway, though I'm sure it's true on other ones too - today is celebrated as Remembrance Day or Armistice Day in much of Europe and North America. It marks the day World War One ended, and in remembrance of those who've served in the armed forces, particularly those who died on the battlefield in sacrifice of a cause.

I've been a soldier most of my life - at times an unconventional one, but it doesn't make the battles any less real. I've seen a lot of people die fighting.

And here we are, today, conscripts in the middle of another war. So take a moment and remember those you may have lost at home - people close to you, or people you never knew who were fighting for you all the same. And think about why you fight here. Or why you don't fight, if that's the case. Both are choices not to be made lightly.

I just gotta say, a moon zombie encounter was exactly what I wanted for my birthday. You guys sure know how to make a person feel right at home.

But seriously, what the hell was up with that and can we nix that from the schedule in the future? If there are other zany, undead surprises lurking around here, it'd be great if you could give a head's up ahead of time.

When I was a kid, FDR would do these little— he'd come on the radio, and he'd sound cheery, and he could talk about all kinds of awful things. Poverty, and debt, and then war. [ His voice drifts off, for a second. ] And no matter how bad it all got, he could make you feel safe. I was always crap at that. I can't make you feel safe. But some stuff you've gotta know anyway, I figure.

I got a copy of one of the UE's field guides, and what it says is that the Black Code is the all-clear for a nuclear warhead drop, then carpet bombing. They have… fancier nukes now, I guess, with more than one point of impact on drop.

Now you know.

[ the video opens on a table, spread with long cards, most of them face-down. the one showing is xvi, the tower. the camera pans out, a little jittery, to show physis sitting at her card table, turned to the side in agitation. blue is knelt on the floor beside her, glancing up at her with concern.

it was almost like it's all happening again, but this time she can't be quiet about it. she doesn't know the initiative as well, she can't really trust their efficiency in the face of something like this. the mu were always mobile, the moment they knew their location was compromised, they would find another one. that wasn't the case in exsilium, and the warning was necessary.
]

To those who don't know me, my name is Physis. I have the [ gift? not hardly. ] ability of foresight, clairvoyance.

We've made ourselves known, acted openly against our enemy, and they are preparing to make a retaliation. We are to be an example of how they retain their power, I have seen it.

Does anyone know what the Black Code entails?

[ She's so not ready for making a video and putting it up here for the Transports to see...but this isn't the sort of thing you can just convey over text. This is actual important information she needs to share with them, frustratingly vague as it seems to be. ]

Hello Ex-Exsilum.

[ Perfect start. ]

My name is Charlie, Ch-Charlie Dyer. I was w-with the rescue g-group on the compound.

[ She stops there and takes a breathe. While she had some time to clean herself, she looks...well, beaten up, Even with long sleeves and jeans the darkening purple creeping up her neck and the cut over her left eyebrow make it obvious she got in one too many unfair fights. ]

I found something. It was be-being guarded, so I knew it w-was important. [ She holds the diamond storage device up for a moment. ] Had the Initiative p-people crack it. It has...um...

[ She puts the device down and picks a paper sheet up. ]

"A system of sch-schematics that show the breakdown of an un-unnamed event over the Island of Exsilium, including m-models tracking the presence of some element o-or another for fifty, one hundred, and two hundred years."

[ She puts the sheet down. ]

Wh-whatever it is, they're l-looking at us. B-been looking at the island f-for a while. Maybe th-this makes more sense to so-someone else here? A-anyway, that's that.

I n-need to sit down...

[ Video opens on Roslyn at her desk in the police office, well dressed as she holds up her badge in front of her for a little bit before placing it back down on the desk. The office is small and cramped and clearly actively in use by the piles of folders, even if they're neatly stacked and arranged. ]

Some time ago, the police force was unfortunate enough to lose Inspector Barnaby, Sergeant Howe, and Sergeant Calhoun back to their homes. Their service was appreciated and will be missed.

In their absence, I am currently assuming the reigns as Detective Chief Inspector of the Transport Affairs Unit. I wanted to reassure the population that the police will continue to operate with integrity and dedication. Should you ever require our services, we can be found at [ address & ooc link ].

For those of you considering joining the force, we are always welcoming new recruits and the pay is reasonable. Serving as an officer is a way to help mend the fences between us and the natives and earn a living. Thank you for your time.

[ Bucky has the communicator on some sort of table, level. He's sitting down in front of it, evidently in a good mood. In the background, there's an old-timey looking radio playing. It cackles with static, but you can just make out a torch song. ]

I dunno how many of you know this, but it's a regular holiday where I'm from. [ He smirks, but doesn't explain. ]

Anyway, I got to thinkin', what better way to celebrate than me taking all of your money? Or… candy bars, or whatever else you got to stake. I'm flexible. I'll take 'em all.

How many of you know how to play poker?

[ The radio buzzes out, and Bucky hits it, once, hard. The sound comes to life again, now an official sounding broadcast. "The objectives of the Initative consist only in ruling by the sword, sowing the see of death and desolation until the take over power. They would then rule by the sword, that is their objective. We my therefore wonder how people who came with the confessed objective of shedding our blood, in our cities, can deceive the population by claiming to bring democracy and freedom. How can anyone claim to bring salvation—"

The broadcast dies. ]

Hello, fellow Transports! I know we're in a bit of a pinch right now what with this super-virus mutating and infecting some of the population, but if you have a minute I've got some questions I'd appreciate some answers to. Some of them may help either now, if we're going to be trying to treat this virus at all, or in the future should anything like this happen again.

What's your name?
Age?
Place of origin? Planet, country, and city of origin would be the most helpful.
Species? If you're anything other than a baseline human, does your biology differ in any notable ways?
What occupation did you have in your world of origin? "Student" and "unemployed" are perfectly valid answers.
Do you have any prior experience with war?
Time travel?
Alternate universes?
Technology at the level the Initiative is operating with?
Do you have any background in medicine?
What about the STEM fields? For anyone who doesn't know, that would be Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.
What kind of weapon did you choose upon entrance to Exsilium? If it has a special function, feel free to include that at your discretion.
Have you made use of the Initiative's training areas outside of mandatory training hours?
If you answered no to the above, why not?
What is your opinion on the Initiative and their missions?

Feel free to skip any questions you feel are too intrusive, or encrypt things if you would like to answer but would rather not answer to the whole network. Similarly, if you would like to answer but don't trust the Initiative's technology, I can currently be found in the library (the one not in the Hold) and would love to either talk face to face or take answers written elsewhere. Look for the blonde in the Metropolis University sweatshirt. Any and all private communication will be kept completely confidential and is only to satisfy my own curiosity. Thank you in advance for any answers!

And, out of the interest of fairness, I'll give you my own answers to this little survey.

cut because holy wow this is getting long )

[ ooc | here, have a textbox with the survey in it to make filling it out easier! ]

[ So here's Bucky, with his pale face and dark hair, treating this thing like it's a walkie-talkie and not a laptop. ]

Awhile back— it must've been months ago— someone told me the UE was mixing up people's minds. Erasing them. Filling them up with lies and propaganda.

The person who told me that is gone, now. A lot of people are gone now. So I wanna know if anyone else had intel on this.

[ He pauses, and presses his lips together. He looks like he's gonna say something for a while, before he says it. ]

Yeah, if you need to know, I want to stop 'em. [ He smiles when he says that last bit, white as something out of the reels. ]

[On the screen is a blond woman, to all appearances human and doing a not-quite-perfect job hiding the kind of resigned annoyance only seen in those for whom getting hauled across space and time is just a bothersome day at the office. She's instantly recognizable to people from a wide number of related universes—it's Susan Richards, the Invisible Woman, visible for this conversation and wearing a black-and-white version of the Fantastic Four's classic blue uniform with the distinctive "4" logo on the chest. It's been almost two days and there's no sign of her teammates, so it's time to cast a wider net.]

Hello. My name is Susan Richards. I'm going to swallow my pride and assume that doesn't mean anything to most of you. [The necessity of doing so doesn't seem to bother her, even though the idea of not being known on sight is strange. Sue laughs a little, and lets go of her irritation. The only real problem here is that her family isn't, and that's always been a self-correcting state of affairs.]

If it does, however, do me a favor and check in? Avengers, X-Men, SHIELD—I'm not picky. [Sue's already run into two people from home. Maybe there are more. She'll even take villains, if only so she can keep an eye on them.]

Everyone else, nice to meet you. Lovely weather we're having, isn't it?

[OOC: Fourth-walling is okay as long as your character's not going to be a jerk about it. Canon fail post is thisaway.]

PRIVATE to DICK GRAYSON )

PRIVATE to ZEVRAN ARAINAI )

I don't suppose anyone remembers, but back in December I came across an old synagogue here. I've spoken to the citizens here who use it for shelter every now and then and they also thought it would be a good idea to help clean and fix it up. I'm no contractor and I can't offer anything in return unfortunately... I've only noticed a lot of people asking if there's something to do around here.

If you're interested, I figured helping out the people here would be one small step forward. Someone's got to eventually help with some of these buildings, hm? I also imagine there's got to be a few people who know a thing or two about repairing interiors. I noticed there was talk of building a greenhouse a few days ago.

[ A lengthy pause. ]

And a question since most on the network apparently enjoy them: do you think there's such thing as too much information? [ It's been on her mind for a couple of weeks now. ]

25 January 2013 @ 05:54 pm
Alright, lemme make sure I got this exact. We've been rounded up to fight in some dad-blamed future battle, and in the meantime we're supposed to sit around and twiddle our thumbs. Guess some things never change, huh?

Look, I got sympathy, I really do. You have terrific taste, bringing me here. I'm all aces. And hang, I hate to say no to a lady. Some of you have to be ladies, right?

[ Cough cough. Ahem. ]

But I'm all booked up. I got a date with Hitler and his Nazi crum-bums. I can't stick around for this.

[Alright, this tablet? Ollie can admit this is a nice piece of work. If he could, he'd probably take it apart but that would probably result in bad things.

Which he's really averse to currently.

But onto the more important things... Listed on this public network post is the name 'Oliver Queen,' a name that's been fairly recently added to the lists.]

Right, so. These guys, our... overlords, they pluck us out of somewhere and then drop us into The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. After that, somehow, we get back to the year 3000 and now half of us are suddenly kids?

[Don't even ask how he knows that bit of information, he's a professional stalker.]

I'm starting to think adjustment periods aren't exactly a thing these guys do around here. Is this... normal?

[HE'S SO CONFUSED DON'T JUDGE HIM.]

18 January 2013 @ 10:41 pm
[ The voice speaking doesn't exactly match the 15 year old kid who's usually talking.  It's gruffer and more sardonic than the kid's ever was. ]

Guess it's my lucky day.  Got dropped right back in here with all my memories intact.

[ Most of them anyway.  He's fuzzy on a whole lot and trying to sort through all this new shit makes his head hurt, but he won't let on to it.  He considers reaching out for a minute, maybe trying to address a few people from those memories who might still be there.  He doesn't. ]

Since I'm here, might as well do something I've never done before.  Where can a guy get a decent drink in this shithole?

24 December 2012 @ 10:34 am
[ Bucky is outside, in some lonely corner of Exsilium. The weather's not right for it, though, and you can hear the wind running through the audio feed, catching static. ]

Last Christmas Eve, I didn't get the day off. So I spent a lot of it complaining that I didn't get the day off.

This year— it's weird, walking around on Christmas and not having everything tell you so. No one's ringing bells on the street or hanging wreaths on the door. I've… I've had a lotta Christmases, away from home. But not like this.

[ A pause. He has no idea where he's going or what made him say all of this. Gj, Bucky. ]

But it's still Christmas, right? And that's important.

03 December 2012 @ 12:21 am
[Adam clicks on the voice. He sighs slightly. When he speaks, you can tell he just really doesn't know what to think.]

I'm sorry in advance.

[You hear the tell-tale signs of a cd being inserted in a boombox. After a while, this song starts to play. All three minutes and nineteen seconds of it. When the song finishes, Adam speaks again, sounding slightly bemused as well as confused as all hell.]

So yes. Crystal, that's S Club 7. I'm fairly certain that listening to music like that is considered torture in some places.

Does anybody want this bloody cd? If not, I'm throwing it in the trash.

Judging from some of the chatter on the Network, those monsters weren't anything some hadn't ever seen before. I gotta admit when I heard about them I was thinking more along the lines of Killer Croc myself, not-- [ a thoughtful pause. ] I'm not sure what it was supposed to be.

[ And there's another quick pause. ]

Alternate worlds are another thing people may be used to here, am I right? Those Initiative guys didn't mention it, but it was printed in that guide... Anyway, doesn't hurt to ask if anyone here might be familiar with Gotham City. [ Because she needs to know just how many variations are out there. Damn multiverse. ]

Or from Gotham. You get it.

25 September 2012 @ 08:51 pm
[The voice is coming into and out of focus, but it doesn't seem to care. It's clipped, and determined.]

They really know how to roll out the welcome mat, don't they? I feel— [buzz and static] ain't the Blitz, but— [more of the same]

I heard the Avengers were here, and I wanna sit-rep. This is [more static] Captain America. [While the reception ain't great, anyone who knows him can tell this is Not Steve.]

I need to know what I'm dealing with.
