So - who wants to tell me how Remy LeBeau's been here? [Nate sounds more or less conversational about the whole thing - he does actually understand subtly]

And before someone asks - I know him from our world, but it's been a few years, and I know he'd never give me a straight answer.

I need work, something to keep me busy. The training facilities are getting a little boring. [not to mention it's a little painful being in the apartment.]

I can do anything technological. Or administrative - sort mail, make coffee.

[voice]
[you will all hear a female voice with a British accent speaking to you]

Good day, everyone. I was hoping you would indulge my curiosity a bit. I was actually in another world before my arrival here. And I don't mean my original world, but a world like this one that takes people away from their homes. This other world was a place called Paradisa.

My question to you is this: were any of you in other worlds apart from your original home before arriving? If so, how long were you there?

I will be the first to answer my own question: I arrived in Paradisa in July. I was there a total of one year and nearly seven months before coming here.

Lucina

( backdated to around april 2nd )

... There we are. I do believe it's-- ah, it is working.

[ The feed snaps to a young woman bedecked in fine blue armor and clothes, holding the tablet at arm's length. Someone's finally gotten to learn how to use the tablet better, it seems. She clears her throat, and stands a little straighter before resting her free hand on the hilt of a sword. ]

Forgive the impromptu greeting, but it is a matter I must address: if anyone has heard word of a man called Chrom, or his Shepherds appearing in this wave of, ah, "newcomers," please inform me with all haste. I would not be able to offer much in gratitude at this point in time, but rest assured I will repay that debt.

[ Pause. It looks like she's gonna end it there, but feels that just might not be enough. And then: ]

Right, my name is Lucina. I am also offering, if anyone is willing or interested, a training session come this Thursday. I believe it would do some of us good to relieve some tension.

[ Have a nod before she stiffly yet abruptly cuts the feed. Hope she did this right? ]

[ in a rare turn of events, you get one dean winchester on the network today. for those who know him, he's looking more thoughtful than usual-- though there's still something close to a smirk on his face. ]

If there's one thing the Initiative's pretty good at, it's gettin' a bunch of people here. I mean, our numbers have quadrupled or something since I got here, and sure there've been some ups and downs in our dandy population, but it's still peaking. [ he has a point with this, bear with him… ]

So that makes me wonder, how many of you weren't yanked straight from your beds back home? Meanin', you were in an entirely different world before Exsilium decided it was its turn? I know there were some of you 'round before, but what about from the new bunch? Or anyone who's left.

Also, if you've ever taken an otherworld-ly tour and gone home after, that counts as well.

So let's hear it! All you aliens and mutants or whatever gotta have a few things to tell, right?

[ because in the movies it's you guys who get to do that kinda stuff. or something. but have a smile if that'll hopefully help you with the whole show and tell thing. ]

[If the camera angle is any indicator, the tablet recording this must be lying flat on a table. All the better for Ed to loom over it. Most of the room isn't visible behind him, but the machinery that is suggests a lab or workshop of some kind.]

So I hear some smartass thinks it's well past time the Initiative got serious about this full-scale war. Whether or not you think that's the kind of judgment we get to make is your problem. [His tone of voice, initially light, hardens a little here.] But the Initiative guys aren't the only people at home, and they still won't be when that war does come knocking.

If the Initiative has too much on its plate right now to focus on them, then let's take them off its hands. We've got the knowhow, the equipment and the skills. Even if some of us are more ordinary than others, we've got more resources put together than anyone trapped in a single world could dream of. Stepping in to protect them works for now, and I'm glad we can do it, but someday they've gotta be able to stand on their own feet. We might not last here forever one way or another... [He lets that hang in the air for just a moment.] but we can at least leave them that much behind.

[He leans in a little closer, just to be sure - the whole point of filming himself is as a lightning rod for people's attention, after all. The small smile on his face doesn't quite match the uncompromising look in his eyes.]

My name's Edward Elric. That's [he points his left thumb towards his chest] Edward Elric. If you think you might be interested, get in touch. I don't care who you are - there's something you can do to help, and I want to hear what it is. [With the same hand, he reaches down to the side of the tablet.] I'll be waiting.

[The video shuts off.]

[ooc: This is the IC announcement of this weapons development research team! There's an OOC post on it here. Signups are open to freaking everyone and can be done wherever; handwaving is totally fine. (Replies to the video that aren't signups are entirely welcome, though!) In the distant, distant future, there should be a log related to this. ♥]

001.
[A short, black-haired guy is wandering around the marketplace, taking in the sights. His tablet's shoved in his back pocket and all the features are on--audio, video, etc. All are on the public settings, so viewers/listeners are getting a fantastic view of a jean pocket with a sliver of gray sky and the muffled sounds of intense haggling.

The good news is, the tablet vibrates to alert its owner of new messages. The bad news is, well, the view.]

[oh, hello, exsilium-- have a redhead waving at the screen in greeting.]

The weather here's a little discouraging, isn't it? I know I personally would much rather stay under the covers and sip hot chocolate on cold rainy days than force myself to go out, but...

That's also not productive and gets really boring, you know? [she smiles then, slowly growing more confident in her words the more she talks.]

Which is why I thought to myself, Ringo, is there something that would still be fun and easy to do even with this weather?

Why, reading to the relaxing sound of the rain, of course! Reading is essentially a solitary activity, but I do think it could be fun with more people, especially if we're taking turns with picking what to read and we could get together and talk about it over some snacks and a light atmosphere.

[she pauses to let that all sink in and make sure she'd gotten the basic idea out there.] Uhm, so just let me know if you're interested, I guess! Or come by the library, I'll probably be here a while.

Kara Thrace "Starbuck"
04 April 2013 @ 09:37 pm
[By now, Kara really ought to know better. She's attempted to throw out the Initiative-provided sniper rifle no less than five times. Trash it, shoot it, an attempt to blow it up, dismantling it, throwing it in the river. It always comes back. And this time when she opens her closet, there it is again.]

Godsdammit!

[This time, she tries reaching out to the community at large for more info. When the feed starts, fury and frustration is written all over face.]

So look, does anyone know how to get rid of the damned toaster weapon? It's like having a stray follow you home. Frak. I've tried shooting it, dismantling it, tossing it in the garbage. Just comes back for more. So what's the secret?

[She pinches the bridge of her nose and looks away, muttering more to herself than anything else:]

Where's an airlock when you need one?
