I'm looking- [His voice is a bit choppy and horse hoarse. Sounds shaken.]

For some assistance- Preferably someone competent and possibly with either medical or technological expertise- or both. I've experienced something execrable and demand a reply.

-Now, gosh darnit.

[The feed opens to show Elmer's usual cheery self, holding that old violin he's found. He plays a few notes on it, slowly, just a pleasant little tune, before he speaks.]

I've got an idea! I think we need more to do around here to distract ourselves, don't you? Sure, there's lots of work to be done, but that doesn't mean we can't try to have some fun, too. Everyone's so down, and we could use something to help make people smile! Something fun that we can all enjoy. And I got to thinking about all the different people here, from so many different times and places, and how varied everyone's talents and skills are. So I thought, why not hold a talent competition! This way we can share all our talents with one another, and have some fun while we're at it. I can be the host! And we'll get a panel of judges, and some prizes. Maybe some trophies! Hey Monimoni, you should be a judge!

Yes, I know, I'm going to hear a lot of "But we're at war!" or "We have so much rebuilding to do!" We can still do both. I was thinking we can hold the competition in a month or two, to give people plenty of time to prepare, and in case anything else happens. Like a UE attack or time travel or whatever else in the world can happen. We can all work hard, find time to practice, and find a way to spread smiles to one another. Happy people make for better workers, after all. What do you all think?

[Barbara’s been here a few days, now. She’s explored a good chunk of the city after memorising the maps. She’s scrolled through dozens of network posts, getting a feel for her sudden compatriots. (In other words, "building an extensive database of files".)

She still feels out of her element – she has no tower, here, no network of power and persuasion – but she’s slowly starting to relax.

So her smile is more or less genuine when she makes her own introduction.]

Hello, everyone. I’m Barbara. [She considered an alias, back when she first arrived, but she didn’t see much point.] I'm new, so I've got my fair share of questions. [A fleeting, rueful smile that hides her frustration.]

How well-integrated have the Transports become? How many of you have jobs here? Have we set up any regulations or enforcement? Has anyone attempted any sort of education system? [She knows some of this already, but she'd like a number of experiences and perspectives.]

[The air-tight encryption isn't so much necessary as it is habit.]

I hear you're a good man to talk to about mechanics.

Attention end user group Transports. Attention end user group Transports.

Final system checks on the space shuttle have passed with 0.00% system failure. To quote, "it has passed with flying colors." Which colors have yet to be specified. (This system prefers blue.)

Test flight to be scheduled for 1200 Wednesday, July 17th, 3313. All members of End User Group Transports responsible for working in the space shuttle restoration project are invited to participate in the test flight.

AI suggest all End Users responsible attend, as said End Users are the only current, living organics in system to have participated in flights extending into interplanetary space. It is also noted that said End Users have the capacity to be reconstructed should we experience catastrophic systems failure.

Congratulations. You have been volunteered. Please respond to learn about your role in your potential destruction, thank you.
