First things first - Initiative? Really? Come on, couldn'tcha be at least a little original? I mean I'm having a serious case of been there, done that. And for the record? Not really looking forward to doing it again. I've had the tour, I've seen the shinies - and I'll say again. Not interested. Opposite of interested. Me and freaky government strongholds go way back. We had a very hot and heavy relationship, but we're seeing other people now, and both of us are better for it. So, second thing? If you could just, you know - help a girl out and point me toward the nearest exit? That'd be real peachy. Failing that? I'm not your strong-arm. You can't control me. Don't even try.

[ It sounds like she's done, but then there's rustling, and she comes back. ]

Oh, neat um -- neat weapon thingy. By the way. Looks like it might be stolen tech from someone very unsavory. But you almost had me drooling. I'm watching you.

Yep. Strength, the dreams, I heal faster than normal people and I can run faster and jump higher... There's a whole list. It's like a survival kit for saving the world, I guess. Every Slayer has had them. When one Slayer dies, another is called... She becomes the new power-havin'-gal. And most Slayers die before they hit twenty. [ She has the Scoobies... But most of it is indeed a burden she bears alone. ]

It's just how it is. I have friends, they can help... But the bottom line is that it's only me. [ Why'd you have to go there Sam? Now she's sad. ] I had a dream once, where the First Slayer came to me. She said 'the Slayer does not walk in this world'. It took me a long time to understand. But it's okay, most days.

[Well he's sad too. He hated growing up in this, but to be alone in it - to live your life thinking you won't make it to twenty -

No it isn't - it doesn't have to be. Hunters - they don't have special powers. [Well] My fun dreams aside. And they get along fine. Where I'm from there's no slayer - just people doing their best.

How old are you? How long have you been doing this? It wasn't my whole life, I was fifteen when my Watcher told me I was Chosen. I can't imagine a world full of evil with no Slayer. I mean, who stops the Hellmouths from opening? Who stops the yearly Apocalypses?

I'm 22, my family's been at this since I was six months old. [Another pause] We do.

[Stop it...with his life, his sanity.]

You? Just your family? Normal with no powers, against the entire world of bad. [ she whistles low under her breath ] I thought I had it bad. You were just a baby.

No, there are other hunters out there. Not enough, but they're there.

[They still have enough bad to keep them busy all their lives. Not that that's too impressive - the life expectancy of a hunter isn't much better than a slayer's.]

They just don't usually get along. [He shakes his head with half a smile, a huff of air indicating it] Yeah. It sucks, but seems like there's not much I can do about it. In a way I guess it's kinda my destiny too.

[He can't avoid his death, not if that would mean the apocalypse would happen. He's never felt more helpless.]

But none of you have-- I mean, I at least have preternatural abilities. How do you fight without them?

[ It's almost a relief to hear about other worlds like this, but she knows the life. She pities him. ] Well now you know you're not alone in the universe, Sam. So there's some comfort in that. I'm 21, by the way. So we're not far apart.

Weapons, exorcisms - whatever works.

[He doesn't want to be pitied - he just wants out. College...God it seems like a lifetime ago and it hasn't even been a year.]

I'm lucky that way, I've never really been alone. [Dean. He wouldn't have lasted a minute without his brother.] But yeah, sounds like we've got a lot to talk about.

... Exorcisms. [ There is so much skepticism in her voice right now. ] Really?

[ Well, he has a point. He hasn't been alone. He is lucky for that. But the rest... ] Tell you what. Once I have directions to a place that serves good coffee, I'll call you. We'll talk. I think it'd be better in person anyway.

Yeah. Remind me to tell you about the plane haunting demon.

[And how close a call it was. And how he talked about Jess - yeah no. That story will revolve around Dean peeing his pants, thank you.]

Just gimme a call when you're free, I know where the good coffee is I'll direct you.

I feel like this could turn into a whole back-and-forth war-stories thing. Before you know it we'll be in wheelchairs chasing those darn kids off the lawn.

[ Because seriously how could this be anything else but that. ]

It'll probably just be later tonight, if you're free.

[He laughs] I won't complain, if we live that long.

It should be fine.

Well, I mean -- I'm proof that even if I don't live that long I can still end up a cranky old lady with too many cats.

[ Oh, good, the grin shows in her voice. ] Kay, well, I'll give you a buzz later, then. [ WE CAN HANDWAVE THAT AND JUST.. go right to action idc ]

[Sam arrives early to the meet. He knows what he's looking for - he caught bits of her other talks to know what she looks like, so he picks out a nice booth at the back where they won't be bothered, with a good view of the door, and settles in to wait after texting her how to find him.

He's not sure how he feels about this meeting, but it's something that doesn't make him want to throw up, to pass out, or to just hide under his bed, so he'll take it.]

[ Buffy has followed the directions exactly as she was given, and she makes it to the shop just a hair before they agreed to meet. She... sure wasn't expecting him to be a tree with legs, though. He stands a full foot over her, towering over her like a ginormous... giant... thing. But she approaches with a smile and a little wave. ]

Jeez you're tall.

[He laughs at her reaction, remembering Cas had the opposite.]

And apparently I'm not even done growing. [He gestures towards the booth] Wanna grab a seat -

Now, that's just not fair. I'm going to have to get a stepladder just to have a conversation with you. [ But she slides into the booth, tossing a grin over her shoulder. ]

Seat successfully grabbed.

[He slides into the seat across from her]

Standard issue for my friends, I'll get you one.

Ooh, you just keep getting more and more exciting. Baddie-killing experience and you come with free hardware.

I can make a mean cup of coffee, too.

I take it that's a promise of future more-coffee-drinking.

Can't be expected to fight baddies decaffinated, can you.

You'd be surprised by the lack of caffeine I get on patrol. But a mocha never hurt anyone.
