[Getting here and being thrown right into the thick of things? It's kind of like hitting the ground running, and he's nothing if not good at acting on exactly what he's given. But, he thinks in some ways it's made processing everything that much harder.

Too much information, not enough context. It's not exactly a pleased expression he's wearing, but it's not hostile either]

This is Captain James Kirk, of the USS Enterprise. If any of my crew, or any other active member of Starfleet happen to be here, do me a favour and report in.

[He pauses to weigh his next words carefully. Considering the communication methods were given to him, he doesn't trust them to be secure from the people behind this whole thing. Anything he wants to say- It's either got to be coded or done in person. So he changes track entirely]

The rest of you? I wouldn't mind hearing about what you do for fun around here, or just about anything else about this place you can tell me. [Because you never put everything on the travel brochure for tourists, and he wants to know everything the higher ups aren't telling him. Everything that's only figured out with first hand experience and time.

A beat] You know what? Why don't my new roommates check in too.

Hello, Captain. Welcome to Exsilium. We manage to make our own entertainment here, most of the time, but I'm afraid at the moment we have some bigger things to worry about.

Yeah? Feel like elaborating on that?

[He can shelve the 'make your own entertainment' for now, even if he doesn't exactly seemed concerned about actually having something to worry about. As he sees it, meddling with timelines goes against his job description, and he doesn't really want to be involved]

[Considering he didn't exactly want to go about screeching things on an open channel- Well, he'll take the distraction when it's given. Have a slow grin turn up the corners of his mouth. If he'd known this place was going to through a bunch of pretty women at him, he'd have revised his opinion sooner]

[Long, long, long pause. And then the video feed flicks on showing a younger version of a familiar vulcan. But still not the right one. Poor Jim.]

Commander Spock, First officer of the USS Enterprise reporting. [And here he raises an eyebrow.] I request that you provide further identifying information. I have served under Captain Kirk for years. [The "And he is my friend" remains unspoken.] You are not he.

[Well, that answers that question. If you were his Spock, further down the timeline, you'd have no trouble recognizing him.

This also means your planet hasn't blown up horribly for you, yet, and that makes all of this really kind of awkward. So after a moment, it's just the slightest grin that appears, elbows settling on the arms of his chair and he leans forward to get a better look at the feed]

Now Spock, would I lie to you? [Yeah, that's rhetorical, and he's mostly poking fun of you for doubting him. Because hell fucking yes he'd lie to you. The problem is- He has no idea what's the same and what isn't other than the few obvious points. Not something they discussed. Settles on the only alternate universe information that he does know; and hopes it's enough]

You once told me that my father, George Kirk, was my inspiration for joining Starfleet. He lived to see me become Captain of the Enterprise.

[...Wow, yeah, that's got to change because fun is always high on his priority list. But, despite that, she's just said the magic words]

[He grins. That's...Not too far from the truth, actually. Even if he wasn't a Captain at the time. His voice is just full of dry amusement]

Those establishments definitely weren't advertised on any of the crash courses I saw. What else you got?

[Not that he's not used to that, but he supposes from the state of this place, a theme park was probably just too much to ask for] As for the other thing? The Initiave doesn't initiate anything. We get missions, and then a lot of radio silence. Not very encouraging.

[She connects the face on the screen to the one she saw in her apartment earlier (before she'd prompty shut her bedroom door without so much as a hello; she's not used to sharing living space with strangers) and sort of stares at in bemusement for a moment before getting up to head to Kirk's room, where she knocks lightly on his door.

He seems reasonable enough from what she saw on the network, but she slips her right hand into the pocket of her jeans as she waits, holding onto the knife hidden there, just in case.]

[He'll- Actually be pleased if he ever learns of her overtly cautious nature. He's gotten the impression that most of the people here are woefully underprepared and...Probably not even combat trained.

They're kids being drafted. It takes him a minute to click off the feed and settle the tablet somewhere he's sure isn't going to end up with it on the floor. There's the small sound of a lock unlatching, before the door swings open]

[Dear god finally, someone on the network who's obviously from space. The blonde teen greets Kirk with a lazy salute--the motion well-ingrained but not particularly enthusiastic/respectful.]

Samus Aran of the Galactic Federation. I pilot my own vessel, but I also serve under the Commander of the Federation Army Special Ops Battleship VIXIV IV.

[Or... at least she's pretty sure she does. Did.]

Can't say there's anything really fun to do around here.

[Trust him, he's just as pleased by that. And the fact that someone said 'Federation' like they knew what the fuck it meant. He's heard how little of them there actually are here- Just a bunch of kids, or people from too behind the timeline. He's not exactly thrilled.

He doesn't exactly mind the lazy salute, he's not a stickler for protocol by any means]

Nice to meet you. I've been hearing that a lot, from the people who responded. And little do in the way of actual missions either.

Please tell me you're a kick-butt captain of an actual space ship with actual proof that humans do get up and take up space travel along with all the other sentient species capable of getting off world. Because that's awesome!

[He laughs, a little, disgruntled expression sliding away. He can't help it, that's-

Well, that's kind of adorable. And you know, he doesn't really object to being a "kick-butt captain", especially if it's true]

I can tell you that with all honesty. Not everyone in Starfleet is human, or alien, either. There's a few mixes involved.

[Vulcan hybrids are a huge anomaly, but other races aren't quite so tight laced] What do you mean by proof?

[Her mouth is set in a serious line, but Shepard's not stressing out too much anymore at least in public.]

Sir! [The salute she snaps off is flawless, she's lived on ships all her life after all and some things just get absorbed along the way. What it's not is the typical salute of a freshly enlisted eighteen year old, which is exactly what she is right now.]

When I enlisted in the Alliance this wasn't exactly the service I had in mind, Captain.

[Her face is still serious, but there's some amusement in her eyes. She knows he's not actually her superior, since it's not like she's ever heard of Starfleet before. He's a Captain though and that had to mean something even if they weren't in the same force.]
