[Getting here and being thrown right into the thick of things? It's kind of like hitting the ground running, and he's nothing if not good at acting on exactly what he's given. But, he thinks in some ways it's made processing everything that much harder.

Too much information, not enough context. It's not exactly a pleased expression he's wearing, but it's not hostile either]

This is Captain James Kirk, of the USS Enterprise. If any of my crew, or any other active member of Starfleet happen to be here, do me a favour and report in.

[He pauses to weigh his next words carefully. Considering the communication methods were given to him, he doesn't trust them to be secure from the people behind this whole thing. Anything he wants to say- It's either got to be coded or done in person. So he changes track entirely]

The rest of you? I wouldn't mind hearing about what you do for fun around here, or just about anything else about this place you can tell me. [Because you never put everything on the travel brochure for tourists, and he wants to know everything the higher ups aren't telling him. Everything that's only figured out with first hand experience and time.

A beat] You know what? Why don't my new roommates check in too.

Hello, Captain. Welcome to Exsilium. We manage to make our own entertainment here, most of the time, but I'm afraid at the moment we have some bigger things to worry about.

Yeah? Feel like elaborating on that?

[He can shelve the 'make your own entertainment' for now, even if he doesn't exactly seemed concerned about actually having something to worry about. As he sees it, meddling with timelines goes against his job description, and he doesn't really want to be involved]

Some of our number are experiencing... temporal displacement. We've all been brought here across space and time, so apparently there's a backlash to that after our last mission.

I'm not quite sure what's being done about it.

So the Initiative isn't very forthcoming with it's plans or solutions?

[He pretty much just had a crash course before he was thrown into the mission, but he'd been hoping- just mildly, that that was an exception, not the norm]

It's hard to get in contact with them at all, really. An unfortunate truth of our situation.

[There's a long pause]

Do you mind relocating this discussion?

[This direction is leading into a lot of hard questions he'd rather they didn't know he was contemplating. It's better if they assume he's a lazy field promotion only interested in fun]

_{( She pauses, considering this, and then nods. )}

There's a courtyard between some of the residential units, _{[ here ]}. You're welcome to meet me there.

[There's a slight release of tension around his shoulders, before he makes specific note of the location and then nods] I'll be there in a few minutes- I'm going to dump this device.

[So a few seconds later, the feed clicks off, and he'll head his way to the indicated spot]

_{( Crystal is leaning against a wall in said courtyard whenever he shows up, a rather large bulldog curled up at her feet. She seems not to be particularly bothered by this, and whenever she spots Kirk she'll offer him a wave. )}

The illustrious captain, I assume.

[And that dog is probably one of the most horrifying things he's ever seen. He's not entirely convinced it's not going to decide to eat him. He'll wave back, just the slightest uplift motion of his hand. He's not going to try and go for a handshake- He's trying this being sensitive to other cultures thing]

You got it. You want to do me the honour of getting your name, before we get started?

_{( She grins, oh so innocently, at that response. Lockjaw is as gentle as a butterfly, most of the time, but there's a reason she doesn't advertise that fact. But she takes a few steps away from the dog, who rolls over and looks like he's on the verge of a nap.

When she steps towards Kirk, she does extend a hand, all earthly familiarity. )}

Crystalia. But you can call me Crystal. I could give you some titles, too, if we're going for an even exchange.

[He'll take her hand in a firm shake, doesn't let it linger past appropriate parameters, even if the grin curving his mouth is a little flirtatious. That's second nature to him, when around a beautiful woman, it's something fun.

But this conversation isn't about that, and he's not willing to risk offending the person who's the best source of information he's found this far]

I wouldn't mind dropping the formalities, Crystal, and making that our even exchange. You can call me Jim.

_{( Her lips quirk a bit at his smile, neither approving or disapproving but definitely taking note. )}

Jim it is, then. How are you finding the Hold, so far?

[Well it's not slapping him, so that quirk there? Definitely welcome]

I've been worse places. I don't trust them, but that's not new either. [A beat] The reason I wanted to meet you away from that device...Are we sure the story they're selling is authentic?

As far as I know? _{( She shrugs. )}

There is a war going on, and they do ask for our help in it at intervals. Whether their motivations and goals are exactly what they claim... that's trickier.
