[Getting here and being thrown right into the thick of things? It's kind of like hitting the ground running, and he's nothing if not good at acting on exactly what he's given. But, he thinks in some ways it's made processing everything that much harder.

Too much information, not enough context. It's not exactly a pleased expression he's wearing, but it's not hostile either]

This is Captain James Kirk, of the USS Enterprise. If any of my crew, or any other active member of Starfleet happen to be here, do me a favour and report in.

[He pauses to weigh his next words carefully. Considering the communication methods were given to him, he doesn't trust them to be secure from the people behind this whole thing. Anything he wants to say- It's either got to be coded or done in person. So he changes track entirely]

The rest of you? I wouldn't mind hearing about what you do for fun around here, or just about anything else about this place you can tell me. [Because you never put everything on the travel brochure for tourists, and he wants to know everything the higher ups aren't telling him. Everything that's only figured out with first hand experience and time.

A beat] You know what? Why don't my new roommates check in too.

So, you fly a space ship? To other galaxies? Like in a sci fi film? That's your job?

Yes, yes, and yes. [Sci-Fi film? Well...He's never actually seen one of those, but...Sure why, not] It does have certain benefits.

Don't say meeting aliens, I've done that without ever leaving earth.

Not the kind of benefits I mean, but they're that too.

[You know, the fun, having sex with other kinds of beings with very interesting tricks kind of benefits] Some people like exploring the unknown, doing things no one else has.

Me? I like giving orders. [He likes the other stuff too, but let's not talk about Feelings]

Exploring the unknown...

[The kid is clearly a daydreamer, judging by the effect that thought has on him. Though he does his best to wrench himself back to earth again and finish the conversation after a few delightful moments lost in space.]

Yeah, I guess that's pretty cool. I'm more of a strategy guy myself.

[He's definitely caught that. He figures if he ever runs into the kid again, any time Kirk isn't actually trying to get things done- Because he does honestly need down time, and he figures info getting will take awhile...

He'll tell him a story or two about some crazy exploits] They're not mutually exclusive. You can't give orders if you don't know what move you're supposed to be making.

It seems like you leader types always just know. I don't think I've ever seen my team's leader hesitate, you know?

[Is it okay to mention that? It seems like other people have been. Oh, well. He can call it something less suspicious if anyone ever wonders about it, right?]
