First things first - Initiative? Really? Come on, couldn'tcha be at least a little original? I mean I'm having a serious case of been there, done that. And for the record? Not really looking forward to doing it again. I've had the tour, I've seen the shinies - and I'll say again. Not interested. Opposite of interested. Me and freaky government strongholds go way back. We had a very hot and heavy relationship, but we're seeing other people now, and both of us are better for it. So, second thing? If you could just, you know - help a girl out and point me toward the nearest exit? That'd be real peachy. Failing that? I'm not your strong-arm. You can't control me. Don't even try.

Not quite that lengthy. Long story short, to every generation, a Slayer is born. She alone will have the strength and skill to fight the vampires, demons, forces of darkness, evil, blah blah blah -- I'm that girl. The Chosen One. Yadda, yadda, there's more but it's all really detaily and not that important.

So kind of like... maximum potential? [trying to put it in terms he understands]

... Wha-huh? No...? I just kind of woke up one day and some old stuffy guy showed up and told me I was Chosen and suddenly I had all these neat powers.

[spongetastic]

Just like that? So you weren't born with them?

[defending]

No. I was born with the potential for the whole destiny calling on me thing. Powers came after I was called.

[spongetastic]

I guess that's sort of what I went through. Except my powers were already starting to come in when I had someone appear telling me my destiny. And mine was a Japanese guy.

[she already told him about his powers, so it's only fair that he mentions his]

See, the way Slayer powers work is different. The Slayer before me had to die before I got my powers. It's destined and everything, but it's magically driven. Not scientifically.

It sounds like a heavy burden to carry. I mean, having these powers is hard for everyone, but... it's that "she alone" part. Aside from your witch friend, is there really no one else in your world who could help you with that?

[defending]

My friends help. They do. There's just... That extra unf that they just can't ever have. They don't get the visions, or the super strength, any of it. It's dangerous for them, even more than it is for me.

[spongetastic]

Wait, hold on a minute. You said visions. Like... dreams? Of the future? You get those, too? [seriously what are the odds of that]

They wouldn't happen to be recurring dreams, would they?

Yep. Slayery goodness. Prophecies, precognitive... blah blah, blah...

[ Wait what. She looks toward him and frowns. ] Sometimes. Why?

I was curious about how similar our powers are. I admit it's a little eerie. [thoughtful soda sip]

[ GLUG. ] What can you do?

The dreams, and sometimes I draw the future too. Strength, invisibility, flying, telekinesis, telepathy, I can create lightning and fire, I walk through walls... Those are the ones I'm in the most control of these days.

[he pauses to let that sink in. Okay he didn't mention them all, but no need to say he's radioactive and immortal too]

Where I come from, they call what I am an "empath". I'm the only one as far as I know.

... And are any of these shareable? Telepathy, I'll leave - I've had that, once, and it was bad. Really bad. Like I almost died bad. But flight? Invisibility? I could really use stuff like that.

[ Uh-huh.. Empathy means emotionally being in tune Buffy does not quite compute... ]

Wouldn't that just mean you understand people's feelings?

My teacher just called me that; he didn't explain what it meant.

I don't actually know. The only time I used it with another person, he was just hit with a stun gun. Couldn't really get anywhere on his own.

I picked them up from other people. Not on purpose; it just happens.

... Huh. We should try it sometime. I'm not really worried about falling.
