First things first - Initiative? Really? Come on, couldn'tcha be at least a little original? I mean I'm having a serious case of been there, done that. And for the record? Not really looking forward to doing it again. I've had the tour, I've seen the shinies - and I'll say again. Not interested. Opposite of interested. Me and freaky government strongholds go way back. We had a very hot and heavy relationship, but we're seeing other people now, and both of us are better for it. So, second thing? If you could just, you know - help a girl out and point me toward the nearest exit? That'd be real peachy. Failing that? I'm not your strong-arm. You can't control me. Don't even try.

[ It sounds like she's done, but then there's rustling, and she comes back. ]

Oh, neat um -- neat weapon thingy. By the way. Looks like it might be stolen tech from someone very unsavory. But you almost had me drooling. I'm watching you.

I can't. It's one of those save-the-world things. Even knowing what will happen, I still have to go. [he has this crazy idea he can actually change the outcome]

That's what makes a real hero. Knowing that it's tough, but choosing to do it anyway. That's sacrifice. [ This humorous moment turned serious, brought to you by Heroes and BtVS, thank you Kring and Whedon. ] You should be really proud, Peter.

[theirs are truly the best canons ever. So many rainbows and flowers] I don't know about proud. I just do what needs to get done.

No, I mean it. You should be really proud. What you'll accomplish just by being motivated, and being the person to -- to do that... Destiny or not, you don't seem like the kind of guy who would run away from anything. From one fate-bound hero to another.

[spongetastic]

Thanks. [he smiles at her, dropping off his finished soda in the trash] I think it'll all work out in the end. What we do makes a difference, even if we don't see it.

[defending]

But with people like us, it's almost always visible. It's just a matter of our eyes adjusting to anything but burden, burden, burden.

I guess it's harder to see when you're in the middle of it. But I like your confidence.

Took me a long time to regain it after a pretty big turning point in my life. I was hopeless and miserable for awhile. Took nearly losing everything to snap back out of it. Opened my eyes to a lot that I'd lost sight of.

[spongetastic]

You know.... I went through something similar not that long ago. I spent a whole month not talking to the one person trying to reach out to me. If it weren't for him, I might still be in that place.

[ugh Adam, conflicting feelings] But we move forward. There's too much depending on us not to.

[defending]

I was just going through the motions. It was like I turned into zombie-Buffy, and until something slapped me awake... I couldn't do anything but shuffle my feet, brain dead and lifeless. I was just some animated corpse. But that confidence... You have to have it. Once I got it back... Everything was different. Is different now. And what you can do is amazing. You choose to save lives with it.

[it's a good thing he's an empath, because this is the third person he's met he can relate with on a deep level, and most other people would find that seriously weird. But for Peter, finding connections with people is just part of who he is]

You're pretty amazing yourself. And I hope I get to fight next to you on our next mission. I have a feeling between the two of us, we'd make a lot of trouble.

Not in person. Is that the weapon you chose? A sword? [if so his dinky little knife is pretty pathetic. Then again, he never uses it. So it's his own fault]

[defending]

Nope. It's this big... scythe-axe thing, actually.

[spongetastic]

Wow. Now mine really looks like a dumb choice. [he pulls the knife out of the little sheath that's at his waist. It finally looks sharp enough to actually cut skin but otherwise unimpressive]

[defending]

Huh. [ ooookayyyyy tex ] With powers like yours, you don't need a big weapon.

[spongetastic]

That's what I figured. It's a little weird to think this thing's supposed to evolve with me. [he shrugs and sheaths it again] I still haven't trained with it.

[defending]

We should train sometime. I can teach you a lot.

[spongetastic]

Yeah, that sounds good. Call me.

I can do that. For now, more touring?

[spongetastic]

Sure. [he motions for her to join him so he can show her all the other shops and things that line the streets. There's more beyond this but it's a good start]

[defending]

[ She smiles and goes with him quite gladly. ] So basically it's just a city. But it's been... manufactured. Ish.

[spongetastic]

Pretty much. There are some ruins beyond the city, but I haven't explored those too much. The bad news is it never stops raining. I've been here since November and I've never seen it let up.

[defending]

Ruins, huh? [ She doesn't even care about the weather, really. ] Sounds like a fun place for me to go.

[spongetastic]

I never really thought of ruins as "fun", but you go for it.
