Well, it's not much, but at least there's some direction. And it gets you away from the things going down in your... world for awhile.
[Yeah, the whole 'world' thing is a pretty new concept. Not quite sure how he feels about that one.
And really, not that he's generally one to look on the bright side- but where Isaac comes from, getting away from his world means getting away from the 99% of the population that seemed to want to kill him at any given moment. And with the added bonus of the whole missing-slash-fugitive status gone? It's enough to at least give this place the benefit of a doubt.]
So I got the official story- what's it actually like here?
[Simple, a little bit demanding.]
Anyone?

It's enough to get him to focus on what's really important, to drop the act a fraction and deal with the problems at hand.
He takes the device and nods, looking at the contact.]
Guy named Dean? I'll keep an eye out for him.
[And he moves to take his own device, putting down a note to himself about it.]
Anyone else?
no subject
[ he has to do a bit more digging on his netbook before continuing, looking for another contact. ]
... Roslyn? But she seemed okay. I don't know if I'd say I trust her, but as long as we don't cause problems, I think she'll leave us alone.
[ he stands there awkwardly for a second after answering, clearly indecisive over what he's about to ask... or maybe just what to ask, specifically. when he does speak up, he tries to keep his tone casual, even though he's pretty anxious about the reply. ]
So, what's going on back home? I don't really know anything about time travel, but I figure I got here first, then Stiles, then you. That means we left at different times, right? [ hey look, sometimes that trusty straightforward logic takes him down the right path. ]
no subject
Alright, then. That settles it.
[Noting down Roslyn's contact information as well, before Isaac turns his head up when Scott speaks again, his expression somewhat guarded. Stiles had been in the same predicament, in being from... behind the times. And while knowing more made Isaac feel pretty good, it wasn't really something that he could even try to hold over Scott's head. The other wolf had done enough for him in the past few weeks, even if he hadn't... actually done it yet.
Timestreams, man.]
I'm further ahead than Stiles, I guess. This whole thing is really confusing. But, yeah, home- um. [And a lot has happened, and he doesn't know how long ago Scott is from, so he starts at where Stiles seemed to have left off.]
Boyd and Erica found a new pack and left, but I... [He shrugs.] ...I stayed and helped you guys with Gerard and Jackson. Stiles-here seemed really upset to learn that the guy, uh- Peter, that he's back, but he helped us out too.
[And then Isaac reaches up, fingers threading along the hollow of his shoulder, as if remembering-] -oh, and your psychotic girlfriend shot me. And broke two bones, and slashed my back to ribbons, and almost killed me. So thanks for that.

but scott knows it’s not a joke, and it’s apparent by the look on his face that isaac’s literally just shattered his world and possibly a few pieces of his heart with that succinct rundown of the few weeks he’s missed. good thing stiles hasn't told him about his mom yet, one breakdown at a time. ]
I... you...wait, hang on, she shot you? I know she was stressed about Gerard, but she was with us. I mean, she was on our side, she was trying to help us. Why would she shoot you? [ there’s an edge to his voice – not just shock, but anger, a gut reaction to isaac’s insults and callous remarks on allison. he’s keeping it in check, since he’s clearly not in the know here, but he can’t help the instinct to protect her from kicking in.
he knows he should wait for an answer, and he seems like he fully intends to... for about two seconds, but then he cracks. ] And what the hell do you mean Peter’s back?! Helping who? You can’t trust him, he – he’s supposed to be dead, how is he back?
[ he’s been getting increasingly agitated with every word, hands going to rake through his hair, a halted start at pacing, then focusing back on Isaac for the last question. his hands are in tight fists at that point, so whether or not the claws are out isn’t clear – but there’s definitely a spark of amber in his eyes. hit a sore spot (or three), maybe? ]
no subject
Still. None of it was technically his fault. Technically, he'd helped. There is absolutely no reason Scott should be angry with him.
His eyebrows raise, and he lifts up his hands, as if to... somehow calm him. Probably not going to work. And also wow, where to begin with the sudden BARRAGE OF QUESTIONING.]
Look- calm down.
[He's not worried so much that he can't handle Scott wolfing out... it's more of the fact that Isaac really doesn't want to, all things considered.]
She sided with her grandfather... or, I guess, she was until he almost killed her. [Oh, whoops-] -she's fine, you saved her. And Peter... I don't know how he's back, but without him, we wouldn't have been able to plan out an attack. He's the reason Jackson didn't kill all of us.
[Isaac is still tense, waiting to see Scott's reaction, ready to shift at a moment's notice and fight back if the other wolf loses control.]
no subject
his face is still hidden when he speaks again, but his voice has yet to shed the raw edge. and good call on clarifying that allison's safe - he was literally half a second away from losing it again before the previous sentence had even finished. ]
I'm sorry, I shouldn't - I know you didn't do anything, it's just... a lot. [ he looks more upset than angry when he finally looks up, but it's obviously an effort to keep his hands relaxed at his side, everything still tense. ] It just... none of it makes any sense. The last thing I remember was at the rave - Allison's mom, she... she tried to kill me, but Derek and Dr. Deaton helped me. I'd just woken up when - [ he's having a hard time focusing, hands going back to his hair in frustration. ]
Even if Peter helped with Jackson, he's not good. Trust me. And Allison - [ he's lost in his head for a second, looking more defeated than before. he gives up on figuring out what to do with himself, sitting on the edge of his bed and fidgeting with his hands. when he looks back up at isaac, he mostly just looks confused. ]
She must have had a good reason, right? She wouldn't just hurt people, not unless she had to. [ not like the rest of her family - right? ]
no subject
You're a ways back then.
[He takes a deep breath that may or may not release into a sigh of relief as Scott moves back to sit on the bed. His shoulders slack a little, hands relaxing from where they were balled into tight fists. Better.]
She's a hunter, Scott. It's what they do. [And that feels harsh, but hello, look who almost gutted him. Isaac shakes his head though, because that's not what needs focusing on, even if Scott tries to divert everything back to her.] It doesn't matter now- look, most everyone lived... oh.
[Right. Scott is further back.]
Okay, a few people have died, but nobody that really matters. And Peter isn't going to do anything, he's weaker than Derek- I think I could take him at this point. Besides, we're going to need him.
[And that's bomb number two- one that Isaac doesn't really want to divulge because he doesn't really know much about it himself.]
no subject
that doesn't mean the next words out of isaac's mouth don't rub him the wrong way, though. ]
Nobody that really matters? You really don't get it, do you? Everyone, everything - it's all important. And Peter... even if he's weak, he's dangerous. [ his expression turns thoughtful, maybe a bit suspcious. ] But what do you mean we're going to need him? I thought you said Jackson was taken care of. [ oh yeah, speaking of which (yes, even more questions, sorry isaac) - ] Is Jackson okay?
no subject
Having nobody to care for you means that you're not expected to care about anyone else either.]
Jackson is... alright, I guess. Lydia did something that turned him back long enough for Derek and Peter to kill him. [He shakes his head.] But he healed, I mean- he's one of us now, but I don't really know what that means yet.
[It pretty much just happened, after all. Isaac rubs awkwardly at the back of his neck, trying to figure out how to phrase this.]
...the other pack. They're all... they're all alphas. Peter strengthens the pack- and he knows enough to be useful for now.
no subject
He's one of us? Huh. I guess we were right about something, at least. [ he's caught up in considering jackson as a werewolf for a second, because wow, that's a hot mess waiting to happen. ]
But hang on, an alpha pack? Does that even make sense? Isn't there supposed to be just one?
no subject
[There's something he's not overly fond of saying, but hell, he was hesitant to bring this up for a reason.]
All I know is that we came home and their mark was on Derek's front door. It's apparently very bad news- and why Derek was making us in the first place.
no subject
So Peter's back, now there's suddenly alpha packs [ still incredulous about that one ], and we're stuck here.
[ another frustrated assault on his poor hair (it's looking pretty fabulous at this point). ] Argh, I just... I hate feeling so... [ 'helpless' is the word he's going for, but he can't bring himself to say it. ] I hate not being able to do anything.
no subject
You're the one who dragged me over here for the interrogation.
[Seriously Scott, HE JUST GOT HERE and is currently trying to, you know, figure out what the fuck is going on in this world. The last thing he really wanted to do was to recap the last few weeks.
But it's Scott, and Scott gets a little bit of leeway, all things considered.]
Besides, it doesn't happen to you for awhile anyway. You have time to prepare.
no subject
and crap, he's totally been an asshole. he grimaces slightly at the realization, giving isaac an apologetic look. ]
Sorry, that was kind of a dick move. Thanks, though. [ you'd think he'd be slightly sarcastic, given the news isaac delivered, but he's not. the gratitude is honest - even if the info wasn't great to hear, he still appreciates isaac sharing it. he seems to have either processed all of the crap that just got dropped on him or put it on the back burner - either way, he's more relaxed now, genuinely focused on isaac rather than having half his mind elsewhere. ]
I wish I could return the favor, but honestly... I still don't know much. They say it's the future, and that we have to go on missions, but they haven't really done anything yet. [ well, except for that VR mess, but that wasn't all that different from life at beacon hills - and it was artificial, thank god. ]
no subject
[He agrees with Scott- it was kind of a dick move- but overall, Isaac isn't too upset about it. He wants to say something else, to emphasize again on how he stayed, even when there was nothing worth staying for, and how he was there through all of this, but he doesn't. How do you tell someone who remembers you as an enemy that you... kind of became allies?
Not that Scott was treating him like an enemy- not that Scott had ever really treated him like an enemy. Isaac swallows hard and pushes the thoughts away, choosing instead to try and focus on what he was saying.]
Well- everyone seems to think that we all got a raw deal. Guess we'll find out.
[God only knew that they were used to being dealt shitty hands.]
And it's fine. I'm not- I mean, I'm not mad at you or anything.
no subject
Okay. Cool, I'm glad it's - we're cool. [ he finally smiles, the first one since he initially answered isaac's open message. ] Honestly, I'm glad you're here. I mean, I know we don't know really know each other, but thinking I was the only - [ barely catches it, but he does. did they manage the whole conversation without saying werewolf outright? dang. ] - it's nice to have someone in the same boat, I mean.
[ he's got stiles, and thank god for that, but even for all of his amazingness stiles isn't a wolf. there are certain things he doesn't understand, and scott's not sure he wants him to - hell, he wishes he didn't have to, either. having another wolf around was something he took for granted back home, even resented, but here? it feels like an anchor instead of a threat. ]
no subject
Scott is a nice guy, and Isaac respects him and knows that he's motivated purely by his set of morals and ethics, but he's still someone else, and the idea of that sets Isaac on edge.]
I'm fine on full moons, [he finally says, because what else do you say to that? There's still a part of him that sees every comment as 'don't fuck this up, Isaac', and even though he knows rationally that Scott doesn't mean it like that, the thought is still there.] Derek showed me how to handle it.
[He rubs a little awkwardly at the back of his neck, going over the words in his head again and finally letting the corner of his lips twitch in a smile. Despite all that, Scott is glad he's here. Even if it's just because he's another wolf, Scott's glad.
That's... kind of nice.]
...but I can see where it would be rough without another one here. Maybe we can- hang out during the full moons. Or something. [A thought catches him though, and he frowns.] I don't know, do you think it'd be too territorial? You're not in our pack. At least, you keep saying that.
no subject
long story short, he'll be glad to have company - less fragile company than stiles - on the off chance something goes wrong. he should probably ask more questions, like how isaac learned so quickly, what derek showed him, if he's sure - but he's still feeling like a jerk, so he keeps it dialed down for now. ]
I... don't know. Does it matter? I mean, without any alphas here, are you even in a pack anymore? [ he wouldn't have thought it was a proximity thing, but this is a pretty extreme distance. ]
no subject
The idea of being an omega didn't scare him, not really- but the sudden separation hadn't really sunk in yet. Even though they weren't... really close, there was still a slight bond to be had, the faint notion of family, and even after Boyd and Erica left, he still had his alpha, but now-
Wow. Depressing.]
I don't know.
[He kind of frowns again and his eyes narrow a little at Scott, because it's totally his fault.]
There has to be an alpha here somewhere. That's how this works, right? We're stronger in packs.
no subject
Yeah, but - I don't know, does it have to work like that? I'm sure alphas die on their own sometimes. Maybe there's supposed to be a chain of command, but... time travel might be a loophole.
[ it hadn't even occurred to him to assume you had to have an alpha. he never wanted one, so the lack of one here hadn't even registered on his radar. but like isaac said - no alpha, no pack, no strength in numbers. and that... kind of sucks. ]
no subject
[He backs down, choosing instead to run his fingers through his hair, totally making up bullshit theories as to how all of this may or may not work.]
Do you feel any more... alphaish?
no subject
... no. Do you? [ the idea of either of them being an alpha is one he'll gladly pass on, but really, it's not the most bullshit theory ever. ]
It's always been passed down, at least as far as I've seen. But you're right, there must have been a first. Or maybe there's more than one way? [ except, wait, even theorizing about this makes it sound like he has a driving need for an alpha. the pack power would be nice, but otherwise - no thank you. ]
Maybe it's not so bad without one, though. At least there's no-one telling us what to do, right? [ ... well, except for the crazy future government, obviously. ]
