Well, it's not much, but at least there's some direction. And it gets you away from the things going down in your... world for awhile.
[Yeah, the whole 'world' thing is a pretty new concept. Not quite sure how he feels about that one.
And really, not that he's generally one to look on the bright side- but where Isaac comes from, getting away from his world means getting away from the 99% of the population that seemed to want to kill him at any given moment. And with the added bonus of the whole missing-slash-fugitive status gone? It's enough to at least give this place the benefit of a doubt.]
So I got the official story- what's it actually like here?
[Simple, a little bit demanding.]
Anyone?

Okay. Cool, I'm glad it's - we're cool. [ he finally smiles, the first one since he initially answered isaac's open message. ] Honestly, I'm glad you're here. I mean, I know we don't know really know each other, but thinking I was the only - [ barely catches it, but he does. did they manage the whole conversation without saying werewolf outright? dang. ] - it's nice to have someone in the same boat, I mean.
[ he's got stiles, and thank god for that, but even for all of his amazingness stiles isn't a wolf. there are certain things he doesn't understand, and scott's not sure he wants him to - hell, he wishes he didn't have to, either. having another wolf around was something he took for granted back home, even resented, but here? it feels like an anchor instead of a threat. ]

Scott is a nice guy, and Isaac respects him and knows that he's motivated purely by his set of morals and ethics, but he's still someone else, and the idea of that sets Isaac on edge.]
I'm fine on full moons, [he finally says, because what else do you say to that? There's still a part of him that sees every comment as 'don't fuck this up, Isaac', and even though he knows rationally that Scott doesn't mean it like that, the thought is still there.] Derek showed me how to handle it.
[He rubs a little awkwardly at the back of his neck, going over the words in his head again and finally letting the corner of his lips twitch in a smile. Despite all that, Scott is glad he's here. Even if it's just because he's another wolf, Scott's glad.
That's... kind of nice.]
...but I can see where it would be rough without another one here. Maybe we can- hang out during the full moons. Or something. [A thought catches him though, and he frowns.] I don't know, do you think it'd be too territorial? You're not in our pack. At least, you keep saying that.
no subject
long story short, he'll be glad to have company - less fragile company than stiles - on the off chance something goes wrong. he should probably ask more questions, like how isaac learned so quickly, what derek showed him, if he's sure - but he's still feeling like a jerk, so he keeps it dialed down for now. ]
I... don't know. Does it matter? I mean, without any alphas here, are you even in a pack anymore? [ he wouldn't have thought it was a proximity thing, but this is a pretty extreme distance. ]
no subject
The idea of being an omega didn't scare him, not really- but the sudden separation hadn't really sunk in yet. Even though they weren't... really close, there was still a slight bond to be had, the faint notion of family, and even after Boyd and Erica left, he still had his alpha, but now-
Wow. Depressing.]
I don't know.
[He kind of frowns again and his eyes narrow a little at Scott, because it's totally his fault.]
There has to be an alpha here somewhere. That's how this works, right? We're stronger in packs.
no subject
Yeah, but - I don't know, does it have to work like that? I'm sure alphas die on their own sometimes. Maybe there's supposed to be a chain of command, but... time travel might be a loophole.
[ it hadn't even occurred to him to assume you had to have an alpha. he never wanted one, so the lack of one here hadn't even registered on his radar. but like isaac said - no alpha, no pack, no strength in numbers. and that... kind of sucks. ]
no subject
[He backs down, choosing instead to run his fingers through his hair, totally making up bullshit theories as to how all of this may or may not work.]
Do you feel any more... alphaish?
no subject
... no. Do you? [ the idea of either of them being an alpha is one he'll gladly pass on, but really, it's not the most bullshit theory ever. ]
It's always been passed down, at least as far as I've seen. But you're right, there must have been a first. Or maybe there's more than one way? [ except, wait, even theorizing about this makes it sound like he has a driving need for an alpha. the pack power would be nice, but otherwise - no thank you. ]
Maybe it's not so bad without one, though. At least there's no-one telling us what to do, right? [ ... well, except for the crazy future government, obviously. ]
no subject
[Scott's been here longer... but then again, Scott also hasn't had other werewolves around to assume leadership of. It made... a little bit of sense, right? Maybe something would sort of reveal itself if they stuck around for a bit.
Not that Isaac felt any kind of undying allegiance to Scott, but the power is something that he doesn't really want to pass up. Besides which, better Scott than some other stranger, right?]
Your guess is as good as mine. [He doesn't know if he likes the idea of just being an omega.] Besides which, alphas aren't just there to tell you what to do, idiot.
no subject
Yeah, they also threaten your friends and family and bite your entire class. Trust me, Derek's not as great as you guys seem to think he is. [ yes, let's trash derek while he's on another plane of existence, it's as good a time as any. ] Did he even tell you that he can force you to do things? Make you hurt people if he wanted you to?
no subject
And yet, he hasn't. [For all the faults that he knows Derek has, forcing people to do things completely against their will isn't one of them. He explained everything before he offered, Isaac knew exactly what he was getting into. The people he hurt, the number of times he'd gone toe to toe with Scott himself... that was all Isaac's choice. Nobody forced him to do that.]
Look, I'm not just talking about Derek. I'm talking about an alpha- a leader. [Isaac never went through the trauma of knowing a sort of evil alpha. He doesn't really know what it's like to be forced into a relationship like that.] They're not like parents, they're... you know, supposed to teach and protect you. Why do you think I could control it by my second full moon?
no subject
all the same, it kind of... hurts? maybe that's not the right word, but it doesn't feel great to hear about how wonderful it is to have a nice alpha. nice in isaac's estimation, anyway, which isn't actually saying all that much. funny how isaac and scott's definitions of parents and alphas are complete opposites (funny in this case meaning tragic). ]
Okay, fine, maybe Derek hasn't been an asshole about it. Not yet, anyway. But they aren't always like that. Peter was my - he was the alpha that bit me. He didn't ask, he didn't tell me anything, he just tried to make me kill my friends. When that didn't work, he went after them himself. [ oh oops, so much for not venting. talking about it obviously stirs up a not-so-old anger, but he's keeping it in check; he's just trying to make his point. ]
So no, I really, really am not that worried about finding a new alpha here.
no subject
...okay then.
[That was a little more unloading than he was prepared for. And while a small part of Isaac just wants to throw his hands up and say 'fine, you be the alpha', a- it didn't work like that, b- he didn't really want to be a part of Scott's pack yet, and c- if Derek showed up, there'd be a lot of explaining to do. So Isaac just sighs in the end and shoves his hands in his pockets, trying to figure out the mess that they'd gotten into within the first hour of seeing one another again.
On second thought, why was he trying to deal with this at all? Scott wasn't his friend, especially not Scott from this far back. Isaac didn't owe him anything, and he certainly didn't have to stand here and argue with him.]
-right. I'm going to head home. Is there anything else I should know?
no subject
even so, he's feeling a bit surly - partly because of said alpha issues, and partly because isaac is difficult to read. open when he least expects it, closed off when most people would reach out. he's still glad he's here, and he doesn't take anything back, but they've clearly pushed the limits of what their allegiance can handle for tonight. he doesn't seem overly frustrated when he speaks up again, but he doesn't apologize for the rant - subtle, but a pretty clear signal for someone usually so ready with the apologies. ]
No, I don't think so. Just lay low. I'll try to find somewhere safe we can go for the full moon, just in case. [ he's slightly ashamed at the thought that he's more worried about himself than isaac at this point - of the two, isaac seems to be keeping a more level head about everything. ]
no subject
So he nods and turns, reaching for the door. Isaac had never really moved that far away from Scott's door- something that was a combination of habit and calculation, just in case.]
Look, I- [He bites his lip, setting his hand on the cool brass of the doorknob.] -I do appreciate this.
[The warnings, the information, the genuine happiness.]
no subject
... no problem. [ he pauses for a second, then keeps going, a bit tentative. not about what he's saying - he means every word of it, it's just isaac's reaction he's not sure of. he's going out on a limb, not really confirming something established - he's asking a question, proposing a new alliance. it makes sense, doesn't it? they're the only pack they've got for now. ] It's what friends do, right?
no subject
So his fingers tighten on the door, and he takes a deep breath, knowing that he should just agree and be done with it. It's just words, just a meaningless connection, he can give something as silly as that and never think on it again.
But he doesn't. He doesn't do any of those things. Isaac bites his bottom lip, and it's clear that he heard him, clear by the way that Scott's words have stopped him pretty much cold, but he doesn't respond- the only sound that comes from it is the noise of the door opening and creaking to a close behind him.]
no subject
either way, scott has no idea what they really accomplished here. he can't help a frustrated groan as he collapses back onto his bed, expression slightly frantic as he stares up the ceiling. it's gotten late, but sleep is a long ways off - not after the mess of information that's been shoved into his head.
ugh. he really, really needs to talk to stiles soon. at least stiles makes sense.
... well, usually. ]
