Look, I can’t say I’m exactly pleased about being brought here -- wherever the hell “here” actually is -- but I’m not going to complain too much. Yet. I mean, the alternative was getting eaten by a bunch of zombies, which believe me, was not high on my “to do” list.

The problem I have is being asked to fight in a war that I’m pretty sure I’m not going to be giving a shit about. I look after only one person: me. Just make sure you remember that.

Oh yeah, anyone happen to know of a decent tailor around here?

Because as nice as this suit is, I'd rather find somthing that's not covered in puke and zombie brains.

Damn, and I was so looking forward to us getting bunkbeds and staying up all night playing “Blind Date” and giggling over all the cute boys.

And don’t mess up the suit. [That would be the suit currently covered in green slime and what looks suspiciously like blood]

[He glances over at the suit in question, one eyebrow raising in magnificent skepticism.]

Wouldn't dream of it. Looks like you already did a great job of that on your own.

[He reaches for the counter, grabs the remote and inspects it.] Don't expect me to stick around here long anyway. Being a soldier's not my style.

Yeah, well if you find a way out of this place, let me know. I'm not exactly keen to stay here either.

[Nick makes a face at that.] I don’t volunteer for anything kid, believe me.

[David cocks an eyebrow and glances sideways at him.]

They got a real weird way of recruiting then. You'd think if they're going to all this trouble they'd grab the kind of people who're too dumb to do anything but follow orders.

[Nick chuckles wryly.]

You counting yourself in that group, kid?

[David can't help himself from laughing at that.]

Pal, I'm only ever in one group, and that's the group of me. The last guys that tried 'recruiting' me like this? I made 'em realize real quick why that was a mistake.

[He arches his eyebrow at that.]

Oh, yeah? What'd you do?

A war? I suppose if you really want to look at it that, it might be a war. Against boredom.

As for looking out for yourself, do have luck with that. You might have a few others sitting on that side of the camp singing about how wonderful it is to be all alone.

I have absolutely no problem with being alone, trust me. Boredom would be good, though; I could definitely handle that.

Then you are in for a treat, so long as you remember that people will try telling you that this is only to lure you into a sense of false security.

Would they be right? Granted, I’ve only been here a couple of hours, but so far this place is a lot more violence-free than where I came from.

Only slightly. We do have the occasional problems, but it is not to the point of this being a huge governmental conspiracy to screw us over.
