Residence, pay, weapons... 'Tis truly a most perplexing abduction, indeed. Am I to be prodded like some errant pet? Experimented upon, perhaps? Or merely observed? Seems a most foolish squandering of resources, if so.

Yet, here I note mentions of conscription and battle. An irony, truly - though, better than the forced imbibing darkspawn essence... And considerably more agreeable with one's palate, no doubt.

So, tell me... How long am I to be expected to roam? Or must my first order of business be one of rebellion?

There was a time when that was true, but it's not anymore.

Optimism does not become me, Nathaniel Howe... Nevertheless, as would be for comparisons between my mother and I, so I will hold you to a different standard.

If I might ask, though, by what means did you come to be counted amongst their number?

I went to Amaranthine in the hopes of killing the woman who murdered my father, and collecting a few of my family's things. I was caught, and rather than putting me to the noose, Elissa put me through the Joining.

Indeed? 'Twas not this 'Elissa' so many are speaking of, whom I recall, but the methodology of what you describe... Yes, I can picture that.

Not all mages are as inadequately prepared against the dangers found there as those who laboured under the Circle's restrictions... Knowledge can be a most powerful weapon, should one realise how to wield it.

I always thought the mages in the Circles were well-versed in how to fight demons.

The only thing they are well-versed in, is submission to indoctrination. I did not learn my craft by adhering to rules administered by those who do not share it... Circle practice discourages initiative. Anything less would allow students to have questioning minds - and the Chantry cannot possibly suffer that.
