[It is a very solemn Giovanni who addresses everyone today. Maybe it’s due to the cold which, admittedly was a problem that even an extra wrap could not quite solve, but more likely it was due to the book on Renaissance history that was sitting open faced on his lap. He had finally found the time to read the book he had traded Cat (a.k.a. Arya Stark) for and the manuscript held a grim glimpse into the future. ]

We are brought here, told that changing the past is the way to correct the future but I find myself wondering if that is true. Has anything that has been done really been for the best? Those who were native in Exsilium before our arrival have been nearly entirely wiped from history. Instead of correcting the troubles with these ‘nuclear bombs’ we have only plunged the planet into a deep cold. Now we are told we must do more of these missions to gather supplies and correct these new problems. Does it ever end?

I wonder how many of you agree with this. Is changing the past in this manner something you feel is right?

[His voice took on an even softer tone as he thought back on what he had read. ]

What would you do if you had future knowledge of a terrible event? Would you journey to the past to stop it from happening or would you be too concerned it might cause something even worse to occur?

Would some one try to stop it? Is that not what we are doing here, altering the past to change our situation? This would be the same and for all I know it might be the reason this world has decayed as it has.

[He has doubts as he says this of course. Those doubts were the reason he made the post in the first place, to judge his own feelings by bouncing ideas off of others. ]

We are, but in this case the reward seems to outweigh the cost. Else we leave this world as it is and doom everyone on it.

Perhaps it is as you say, but how to know when changing the past would help and when it would not? It might be too unpredictable for anyone to use it.

It requires so much faith put in the Initiative.

I have no faith in their motives. An organization that kidnaps others to fight in their war has proven they are untrustworthy.

Besides, that is not the case any longer, is it? The Initiative holds very little power now that there are so few of them.

Perhaps, but you don't need a big group to win a war. Only a big amount of people that believe in your values.

I don't think you'd be alone in distrusting them, though-what we know about this war, this world, we know through their eyes. Makes you wonder what the other half of the story is.

I am not saying they can not make a difference I only disagree with their methods and as you have said, I do wonder about the other side. I suspect both groups are engaged in things I would not agree with but I would like to know more about them anyway.

Do you feel the same way?

Entirely. More than anything else, I want to know before I make too many decisions in regards to this war. That's kind of a difficult goal given the state of things right now, though.

Si, even the library, as flawed as it was, is no longer an option for us.

Once we become better established in this new land maybe there will be something we can do to discover more about our enemies.

If there was a way to get into the system they use to keep their information, who knows what we might find?

[Already she's thinking about how to slip past firewalls, copy over files, anything of value to be found would be so.]

Are you skilled with matters like those? All of that kind technology is far beyond my experience.

[Getting into guarded places was easy, but fighting the technology for information that was hard. ]

Very. It used to be a major part of my life to deal with technology in general, so I don't think it'd be too hard.

Then if we were to do this we would just need to find you a... what do they call them, computer? That has information we would like to know.

This is not a small task.

[She shakes her head a little.]

That specifically would be nice, but it's not necessary. All we'd need would be some device-computer, communicator, along those lines-that can link to their network. Through the network, we could find out what their plans past and future have been.

[And so much more, but that depends on A: getting close enough to link up and B: her own power being stronger than their inevitable firewalls and diversions. It would be foolish to underestimate them.

But there is potential in this plan, and she likes it.]

[Most of this flies over Giovanni's head, but he settles on the one piece that does make the most sense. ]

It sounds as if we would at least have to get you closer to one of these networks? Would you need to be all the way in United Earth territory for that?

[Before replying, she decides it's better to start locking this down.] ...I don't know. It's possible, depending on where there might be devices like ours or a computer station. I can ask the Initiative for their estimate on that, I'm sure if they hear about the parts that involve future plans they'd be into it.

[He is wary about involving the Initiative and no doubt that uncertainty registers, however briefly, in his expression. ]

I suppose if any would know it that information it might be them. Wandering around in United Earth territory hoping we might stumble across a computer would not be the wisest idea.

[It's a smaller risk compared to venturing out themselves.]
