We should not return to Earth.

We should stay here.

I know that may be an unacceptable proposition to some of you, especially after the most recent difficulties with opening the agricultural wing.

But from the perspective of safety and advantage, this is better.

Even at its widest point, the English Channel is only 240 kilometers.

You mean all those time travel missions? I still think it's something we shouldn't mess with. Not our history.

You may be right.

What about the exiles?

I've never been to Exsilium, but anywhere is better than here. Too much can go wrong in a place like this.

You do understand that people need some personal space, yeah? Because I'm lacking quite a lot of it right now.

that's what we're aiming to prevent. there's no guarantee they won't simply follow us here, i'm sure they haven't forgotten about us

Do I seem the argumentative type? Mostly I'm just bunches of fun. Yay, fun!

Hmmnn. The idea I have is that if you move more often, you're more protected.

I know. Bringing an end to this war won't be an easy feat. We don't have the answers yet.

As long as we don't give up and continue to press forward together, we'll find the solution.

Not principle so much as convenience. Living on earth, danger or not, will always be more comfortable than whatever this is. I prefer comfort to safety, if that makes any sense.

But do we really?

We know precious little about the transport machine. How to fix it is still a mystery to me.

But we DONT know what exists out there. Look at those goddamn zombies that came through when we opened that part of the base. We didn't know that existed.

While we're all here we're like hamsters stuck in one fucking big hamster ball. Anything can get in, we can't get out.

[And by out he means there's nowhere for them to go, nowhere but back down to Exsilium.]

Yes. I spoke to one of the Initiative employees.

Was the difference in population part of why you want to stay up here? Aside from the obvious tactical advantages.

[There's a long pause before he responds again.]

yeah well

i guess i got some perspective that while Exsilium was a shithole, this place is even worse. if i gotta be in a shithole it might as well be one on the ground.

Either situation is not ideal. We are, essentially, trapped and waiting, while we slowly chip away at the Initiative. However, we could make more people available toward that end if we were not as focused on the basics of survival as we are up here.

Morale cannot be discounted. The recent incident is surely on everyone's minds, and serves as an example of not only what could go wrong here, but what is unknown about living here long-term. We cannot afford to lose an entire population again. We do not know with certainty this is a safer environment, and even if it turns out that it is, the fear that it is not, as well as the long-term effects of claustrophobia and isolation could cripple many of us.

If the majority of people want to return to Earth, our efforts will not be properly focused until that goal is met. Unfortunately, we are not a cohesive group of soldiers in the least bit. If the illusion of freedom and seeing the sky - as well as having at least somewhat less worry about where the next meals are coming from - are enough to help maintain some fighting spirit, I think that's a logical enough thing to work toward.

I understand what you are getting at. I do not disagree completely, though I am not convinced that the gains of staying here completely outweigh the risks.
