[ Video / Action -Mid Afternoon ]

[ As always, the video feed turns on - she may not use the network much, but she did when she needed to. This time, Lucy is seated at a desk with balls upon balls upon balls of crumpled up pieces of paper. She gave a dejected little sigh. No matter how hard she tried, her stories just weren't forming the way she wanted them to. She knew why at least - kinda. She needed a distraction, desperately. Finally, she let out a frustrated noise, flailing at the desk and shredding a piece of paper before running her hands through her hair. She'd been TRYING (key word) to write about the latest capers with the body swapping and everything, even though she wasn't affected by it, but... ]

Aaaa - Darnit!!

[ HUFF. ]

I'm not making any progress on this whatsoever. It's not even writer's block, it's just..

[ She stopped there, brown eyes shifting towards the feed as she stretched one arm over her head, the other reaching behind her head to grasp her elbow. MRPH. ]

I think I need some air. Anyone want to come with me? I was thinking about exploring the Outlands a little. A distraction should be just what I need to get a fresh start on this.

[ Oh hey, another new person. Cool :3 ]

Great. Where are you right now? I'm still at the apartment building, so I could meet you outside.

I'm already outside! Come meet me. My name's Toph!

Okay! I'll be right down - and my name is Lucy. Nice to meet you, Toph!

[ Always nice to make new friends! But she cuts the feed there, grabbing her keys- never leave home without them! - and headed for the stairs to meet the girl. ]

[Toph is sitting on the dirt outside the entrance to the apartment units, her legs crossed and her head cushioned by her hands. She can feel people passing by, but if any of them are her, she can't tell. So she'll just wait here for this person.]

[ A few minutes later, Lucy exited the building, a bag slung over her shoulder. Glancing around, she caught sight of the bender and walked lightly over towards her. ]

Toph?

[ah, that's the voice. Toph grins and sits up, looking in its diretion.]

That's me! Didn't catch your name?

Lucy! Lucy Heartfilia. [ She grins brightly. ]

I hope you don't mind it's just us.

It's fine.

[she stands and puts her hands on her hips.]

Let's go! I wanna see this "Outlands."

Right! [ ONWARD to adventure! And Lucy starts off. ]

So you haven't done any exploring since you got here, huh? When did you arrive?

I guess about two weeks ago, now... I wanted to explore, but as far as I can tell it's nothing but buildings for miles and miles around us.

[Toph walks alongside her, bangs flopping in her face with each step.]

Not even the biggest city in my world is as big as this one.

It is a little tricky to get around at first. It helps that there are a lot of landmarks around to help you find your way though. My friend and I almost got lost in the forest when we first went exploring, but he burned our mark in the tree so we could find our way back. Like breadcrumbs, only without the bread.

[ OF course, she has yet to realize Toph can't exactly -see- the landmarks. At least not the way Lucy did. ]

Landmarks...? [blinks and tucks her hands behind her head as she walks.] Like what? All I can feel is rock and metal everywhere. And a lot of weird other stuff. And it's all so similar to the next part...

[ Lucy almost stopped in surprise, glancing at the girl. ]

Wha.. well - that crooked tree there, see? [ She pointed. ]

It's like a marker for when the city starts to end and the Outlands begins. [ ... ]

You - can't you see it? [ Because otherwise how was she walking with Lucy like normal? ]

That one over there?

[Toph couldn't see what Lucy was already pointed at it, so she pointed herself, without actually turning her head or eyes towards it.]

Nuh-uh, I can't see it. Well, I know it's there, but I can't see it. I'm blind, can't you tell?

[jeez. this is annoying but Toph secretly enjoys the fact that nobody can tell]

[ Lucy... had to admit that was kind of weird. But wait - Toph's explanation (sort of) was a little more enlightening. ]

Blind?! But... [ She paused, looking more closely at the girl's face. ]

I had no idea... but you're walking and everything like you can see perfectly well. How do you know where things are if you can't see them?

I can tell what's going on around me with earthbending. When stuff moves, it sends vibrations into the stuff it touches and I can sense them through the ground.

[She picks up one leg and points to her foot, which was covered by something like a boot cover - her actual foot, thought, was bare, and it looks like the bottoms haven't been washed in a while.]

Umm... earthbending is basically this thing where I have a connection to dirt and rocks and stuff. [since that's always the question that comes after.]

[ Eeww, dirty feet. :( But the explanation is pretty cool, actually. ]

So that's how... that's amazing! [ Wait, bending? Lucy stepped off of the path into the forest proper. ]

I've heard that term before, 'Bending'. Are you from the same world as Korra and Asami...?

[They aren't dirty! They have a healthy coating of earth. ahem.]

Yeah... they're from the future in my world, though. Apparently they know, like, what happens to us when we grow up and when we die and stuff. It's really weird.

[ :I Healthy coating of dirt you mean. *cough* ]

Really? That's... got to be really weird. I'm not sure I'd want to know my future if someone came from that far ahead. ... I mean, it's a little different if it's just a difference of a few days, but...

Ah! Here, I guess you can tell the difference now. [ Since they've passed proper into the forest, and there was naught but cold ground and pine needles and leaves and possibly some animal poo over there, so watch your footing. Or... well... you know what I mean. ]

[Toph's feet hit cold, damp, natural ground, and she grins.]

Now this is more what I'm used to. I couldn't tell from back at the Hold that this was forest. I thought it was just more ruins.

[ Lucy giggles softly at the change in Toph's expression. ]

So where you're from it's a lot different from here? I mean, in general, not just - this area.

Yeah.

[she tucks her hands behind her head as she walks.]

Everything here is so... weird. The buildings are so big! And they're all made of metal and rock. And a bunch of other weird stuff.

That's amazing, that you can feel all of that. What else can your earthbending do?

[ She sets the path, but Toph might be able to 'see' it first - they're heading up to a cave that's partially hidden by bushes. Lucy knew about it - but not knowing the exact spot made picking the entrance out a little more tricky for her. ]

I can see most stuff better than regular people.

[she shoots her a grin, and then it wavers for a second.]

Hey - whoa, there's a big cave up here. [it actually throws her off to sense something so familiar, after being in the city for weeks and weeks.]

Huh? Where? [ She checks the map curiously, then folds it into her pouch, scanning the area. ]

Can you see where it is? There's so many bushes and underbrush, I think they've grown over it.
