I don't suppose anyone remembers, but back in December I came across an old synagogue here. I've spoken to the citizens here who use it for shelter every now and then and they also thought it would be a good idea to help clean and fix it up. I'm no contractor and I can't offer anything in return unfortunately... I've only noticed a lot of people asking if there's something to do around here.

If you're interested, I figured helping out the people here would be one small step forward. Someone's got to eventually help with some of these buildings, hm? I also imagine there's got to be a few people who know a thing or two about repairing interiors. I noticed there was talk of building a greenhouse a few days ago.

[ A lengthy pause. ]

And a question since most on the network apparently enjoy them: do you think there's such thing as too much information? [ It's been on her mind for a couple of weeks now. ]

Depends on how influential your family is, but in my time, people are really invested in knowing about the lives of others with money. Famous people, you know?

I'm not sure why. It just is.

[sharpe]

Famous people tend ta be dead. [ He chuckles softly. ] Saints, conquerors, the like. [ Wait, there's something Jane said... ] Poets and philosophers too, though I don't know any of those.

[gevurah]

That's true.

It's a media sensation. You know like the newspaper? Our news is delivered in all sorts of ways now. There's jobs devoted to following famous actors or musicians around.

[ Slow... blinks... ]

Christ, and I thought Shellington was bad.

Aye. He's a reporter, but he pretends ta be a man of letters of some sort.

He came over ta Spain ta write 'bout the glories of war. [ Pause, and he snorts. ] Ends up being all starry-eyed 'bout a lying bastard.

A Colonel Brand. You've ever heard of him?

I'm not sure. The name doesn't sound familiar.

[ With a distinct satisfaction: ] Good.

He's a liar and a spy, ma'am. [ Wryly. ] He deserves ta rot in the well where he died without being remembered by history.

Can't say I'm familiar with him. It's possible he never existed in my world.

My... stepmother has a big company of her own. I've heard her mention the family name once or twice at parties.

[sharpe]

Yer stepmother does? [ Wow, women owning businesses. But wait, more importantly: ]

Which family name, Miss? I'm afraid you've lost me.

Rothschild, I mean.

My stepmother's a socialite-- social elite. They talk at dinners and parties about other businesses sometimes. [ Among other things. ]
