Happy New Year, according to the calendar in use in Exsilium. May the next year bring glad tidings.

To anyone interested in learning basic self defense, I've spoken with Police Commissioner Sorenstam and will be starting classes through the station for any willing to attend. It's open to everyone, which means rubbing elbows with the exiles who live here, and provided cost free.

Classes will be running Mondays and Wednesdays at 0800, 1000, and 1600, starting the 21st.

May I ask what an aspirant is?

One on the road to becoming a full member of the phratry. One who will soon become an Iron Snake, a space marine. A defender of the Reef Stars. They have many titles.

Which goes past what the aim of a self defense class is, at heart. I'm not sure it'd be the kind of learning experience you'd benefit from in a way that's equivalent to what you did.

True. I would simply attend out of curiosity, by your leave.

By all means, you're welcome to attend. I would ask that you speak with me after class if there's any particular questions or curiosities you find yourself having instead of speaking up during the course. Though forgive me for asking, but are you very visibly someone or something imposing?

I'm a space marine. We're 8 feet tall, cased in war-plate, and carry several hand-weapons on us at all time. I have been told we inspire no small amount of fear and awe from mortals.

In brief, you're likely to terrify half of anyone attending the class.

Mind being a demonstration partner in dealing with attackers who're significantly larger than a given "victim?"

It would be my pleasure. SHould I leave my helmet off? I seem to... inspire less fear then.

Yes, that'd be a good move. people are less unnerved when they can see another person's eyes. Something in the psychology of it all.

I must confess I don't understand humans well, though I defend them, was created by them, and began my life as one.

Are you much of a reader?

[priad]

As much as any command-rank Iron Snake is. I'm not a librarian, however.

I have no idea what your reference means, but hey, as long as we don't need someone indexing, being able to read is a good place to start. I can reference you some interesting files in the library if you want to learn more about human psychology, as well as recommend quiet observation time without predispositions. One of the two is more achievable than the other.

That might be advisable, yes.
