Happy New Year, according to the calendar in use in Exsilium. May the next year bring glad tidings.

To anyone interested in learning basic self defense, I've spoken with Police Commissioner Sorenstam and will be starting classes through the station for any willing to attend. It's open to everyone, which means rubbing elbows with the exiles who live here, and provided cost free.

Classes will be running Mondays and Wednesdays at 0800, 1000, and 1600, starting the 21st.

It's open to anyone, like I said, especially if you're beginners. I'll be starting from there and helping people improve at their own rates.

I've never really done something like this before, but I've done some stunts in movies before. Dunno if that counts as relevant experience though.

Can you tell me more about what sort of stunt work you've done? It may help determine how relevant it is, though you can always tell me as much in person.

They've taught, and they have practical experience too. We come from a rough place.

Then you're welcome to direct them to attend any of the classes on the 21st and speak with me. I'd appreciate the assistance, as long as it's willing and they're flexible with scheduling.

Considering I'm working through the department, technically yes. If you mean will constables be standing watch over the proceedings, than I'm sorry if it disappoints you when I say no, they aren't.

( He was a prince last she knew, but she was only using standard ideas of respectful speech. Probably she could have forgone them entirely, but a measure of a pretense at respect would be easier to work with than the ruffled feathers of a man insulted when she'd offered, worlds ago, to help him defeat a dragon. )

I've done capoeira before, but it's been such a long time. Either way, I could definitely learn more self-defense!

Capoeira is nice and high energy. I'm glad to work with you more one on one if you find the classes are going over what you already know, as a future note, and in the meanwhile I'm glad to have you show up to whenever works best for you.

Learning is a process we never stop going through. It's good exercise for the mind as well as the body.

It's quite enjoyable! Loosening up when it's needed, tensing up when it's required. Just learning it makes my fighting spirit awaken.

I know it sounds sappy, but it's true! Still, I feel like I've forgotten a few moves, so I'll gladly relearn them and take your offer.

A few dozen spread through all the classes. I'll need to do more word of mouth advertising with the exiles. Past that, it's a handful who've spoken up here.

Are you asking for yourself? In general I don't feel any more advanced classes are merited at this time, but I'm more than happy to work one on one with people who already have the basics down and are looking to be challenged and continue improving their self-defense skills.

( She's careful not to mention offensive skills -- she certainly knows a variety, but Sakura isn't planning to make that her point of contact with anyone from the start. Self defense carries a different meaning than the fighting skills given in training to any shinobi. They are, after all, those who are hired to defend and to kill. Self-defense is only a part of their entire repertoire. )
