It would only be idealistic if it was assumed to be easy. It takes great discipline to be able to do so, however it is still worth trying. It's more about the journey than the act itself.

Yes, journey. I would recommend meditating on the issue, and really thinking about it deeply. It may not give you the answers you seek, but it may help to bring perspective. Even if you can't learn to forgive, you can at least learn not to hate.
