( ooc: dated to a bit earlier in the evening. )

[ Edgeworth is sitting his room tonight as he address the network; someone who knew him well might suggest that he looks tired - exhausted, even - but if questioned about it, he'll just deny it. ]

Good evening, fellow transports. For those of you I've yet to meet, my name is Miles Edgeworth and I am a prosecuting attorney.

Tonight, I bring forward to you all an idea that I have been considering since my arrival here last month. As some of you may know, Exsilium currently has no internal judicial system. That is, no police, no courts, no prisons... and even worse, no laws. Both in light of recent events and out of concern for possible future occurrences, it would be my preference to implement some sort of system to deal with inter-transport conflicts.

I am willing to work to my full capacity to ensure the functionality of such a system and all that it entails, but I do acknowledge that I am only one person, and I cannot achieve my goals alone. So, I ask: who amongst us would be willing to assist me in this matter, so that we can ensure a safe and just society for all of us who have been brought here?

And a second question, if you don't mind: I am aware that there are many individuals from a wide array of disparate alternate realities, and that the judicial system as I know it might not exist where you are from. If this applies to you, I would welcome any information about how crime was handled in your reality.

Thank you for your time.

[ At the end, he submits a text version of his main points for reference: ]

1. Would you be willing to assist with the creation of a transport-run judicial system and an accompanying set of laws?
2. If your judicial system differs from the one I have briefly described, how does it differ, and what aspects did you like/dislike about this system?

I will answer any further questions or discourse on this topic, and you are of course free to discuss it amongst yourselves.

- Prosecutor Miles Edgeworth

She happens to be a nice doctor and I find the eyes rather interesting. Not to mention the hands. [ Hello, I am a healthy Japanese male that has read worse in smutty manga. ]

Factors that need to be considered as well. How can we have facts if a magic user erases the evidence or even a person's mind?
whatsupcroc: (☇ curious: whatcha got there)

[personal profile] whatsupcroc 2012-09-15 07:40 am (UTC)(link)
She's super nice! I want to know how her vision looks from her side of things. It's got to be so cool!

Or if a telepath can mess with your mind, or if the Initiative can put memories in your head, or take memories out of your head?
onemoredeath: (perfectly sane)

[personal profile] onemoredeath 2012-09-15 07:46 am (UTC)(link)
She is very nice. I wonder too, though she had said that it evolved from when her kind were hunters.

Yes and yes. Memories can be as subjected as anything else you experience.
whatsupcroc: (☇ smile: see what you did there)

[personal profile] whatsupcroc 2012-09-15 07:53 am (UTC)(link)
Has she said what spectrum of light she sees in? That's so cool! I bet she'd love to meet an Andalite, though they have four eyes and are herbivores, so the reasoning was different. Biologically speaking.

Geez, but you've got to think there's a reason we try to cling to what we believe. And most of us seem to still know what and who we are right now, and this is all so negative! People will be fine. If anyone does start messing with memories, like really messing with them, we'll find out, and we'll stop them. For sure!
onemoredeath: (colorless)

[personal profile] onemoredeath 2012-09-15 07:58 am (UTC)(link)
Not that I have heard. I may have to ask her when I meet her.

Yes. We did so the last time.
whatsupcroc: (☇ ask: it's that easy is it)

[personal profile] whatsupcroc 2012-09-15 07:58 am (UTC)(link)
Please do! Then tell me what she says. I'd love to know!

Who was messing around the last time?
onemoredeath: (gotta remember)

[personal profile] onemoredeath 2012-09-15 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll do my best to remember.

[ He is a little surprised she hadn't heard about this before. ]

A group within the Initiative had decided to make us a little more compliant and thus spiked the food and drink with drugs to alter our way of thinking. This group also imprisoned one of our members when he exposed the plot. One of our members then took it upon himself to kill the ring leader of that group and issue a warning to the others to not attempt it again.
whatsupcroc: (☇ exasperated: yeah you say that now)

[personal profile] whatsupcroc 2012-09-16 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
[ She blinks. ]

Why did I have a sinking feeling that story was going to end in murder?
onemoredeath: (devil in my head)

[personal profile] onemoredeath 2012-09-16 05:08 am (UTC)(link)
Because that is usually the case with stories here.
whatsupcroc: (☇ happy: understated smile)

[personal profile] whatsupcroc 2012-09-16 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
Not always! There's been at least three that ended with, "And no one was killed and the problem was fixed." Still, doesn't that make what Miles and everyone else who wants that law structure important to do?
onemoredeath: (course i'm sane)

[personal profile] onemoredeath 2012-09-16 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
How would it have helped the situation? We did not know it was them in the first place and they do not operate under any laws we can make.
whatsupcroc: (☇ consider: not sure that makes sense)

[personal profile] whatsupcroc 2012-09-16 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
Mm, it gives people a way to respond. Even if you can't stop everything, I don't think it's any more right to kill people in retaliation just because you can and can't think of anything better on your own. Sometimes you need to, and there's always times where you don't get a choice, but we aren't living in that kind of do or die situation.

Yet.
onemoredeath: (do tell)

[personal profile] onemoredeath 2012-09-17 06:46 am (UTC)(link)
I doubt the man who did the killing was in full possession of his mind in any case. He was far too militant in his thought process. Murdering someone live through the netbook is not what I call useful.
whatsupcroc: (☇ worry: listening)

[personal profile] whatsupcroc 2012-09-18 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
No, it's more sick, gross, and unnecessary.
onemoredeath: (evil thoughts)

[personal profile] onemoredeath 2012-09-18 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Sort of ironic considering exactly who is talking here, though people don't know that bit yet. ]

It is. Highly distasteful.
