Hear Ye, Hear Ye, or some such crap.
I'm a cop, I've been very upfront about that since day one. So, this is an issue near and dear to my heart.
As far as I can tell, there is no such thing as law enforcement here. In fact, I'm not even sure we have laws. The closest is the Initiative themselves and I wouldn't trust them with my daughters pet hamster, let alone fair law enforcement.
I know we have enough transports here that are not only experienced in their world's version of police work, but would probably be willing to do it here. That's not the question. We have the manpower. The question is should we and how? Logistics, it's always fucking logistics isn't it?
First off, if we form our own police, where do we put the criminals?
Secondly, what do we enforce? Are there laws here? Hell if I know.
Thirdly, will the Initiative even allow it?
I don't know about everyone else, but I'm tired of living in the fucking Wild Wild West only worse because at least the West had people that tried. As crap as it often was. So talk, yell at me, something, but at least start thinking about it. Because if we're here for the long haul, at least we can make things bearable here right?

We'd have to do a census, I'd suppose; see how many transports and how many natives are here and, more importantly, where all the transports are from--it'd be a real spanner in the works if you encountered a lot of people who have no concept of, say, thievery. There are others, I'm sure, who'd believe themselves above any sort of law because of the power they wield. [sigh] Multispecies locations are notoriously difficult to police.

Yeah, multi-species, and I thought the native vs. Haole crap back home was bad. This'll be worse. I think I'd be happy with the basics at this point, Murder, rape and thievery, lets start there and work out? I don't know. I was just throwing this out there.

It's not a bad idea, really. Any population of this size is going to need some kind of internal policing. [a beat] I'm told we've a few lawyers here, it might be a good idea to start with them, draw up some sort of a constitution? This place is about as sovereign as it gets in this part of the timeline.
