My name is Adam Jensen, and I've been with the Detroit Police Department and its SWAT division for almost ten years. The last two, I worked as a Private Security Specialist. Earth, 2027, no major deviations.
With that out of the way, I've [ hacked through everything ] read up on past events since the transports started and noticed that the security measures around the compound, the city in general and especially the transport apartments are insufficient; and I think it's in everyone's best interest that we maintain a safe and secure environment for ourselves because I don't think the Initiative gives much of a shit. I'll try and do something about it provided they let me mess around with their precious security systems and joke of a network.
Until I sorted that out, I can at least provide you with an impromptu code I whipped up a little while ago that should make your online communications a tiny bit more secure. Feel free to use it—you just need to download and unpack it, then apply it to any transmission.
>> DOWNLOAD (icarusencrypt.exe)
[ so, using this encryption will make all your private conversations about 25% more unhackable and it will also PING YOU when someone tries to hack through it. On the downside, using it will enable Adam to stalk all the private conversations you apply it to UNNOTICED because hell, he wrote this shit and is still too nosy for his own good. ]

addendum;
Is there someone among you who would consider themselves knowledgeable with prosthetics. Or cybernetics. Preferably both.
[ There's a video attached of a rather dark, gloomy place; but after two seconds this thing comes into view, SANS BLADE, of course. Just looking at it, it seems to be made of sleek black metal and moves absolutely naturally... if it weren't for two fingers being locked into rather unnatural positions, like they're dislocated. This'll teach Adam not to do too much weird shit with his hands when he can't be sure if any specialists are around, sigh. There's a low rasp, just two words lacking any emotion, ]
It's stuck.

My, that looks to be quite the problem. Does it hurt? [ he knows it doesn't. just askin'. ]
VIDEO
and Adam is actually ambidextruous thanks to his augmentations and while he COULD type effortlessly with just one hand, he's both feeling lazy right now and having a smoke. which is why this is still video because he doesn't bother to change the setting.
though Vanadi won't see much. maybe a table with some booze, an ashtray and cigarette smoke in the background. ]
Not really, not. It's just inconvenient.
[ it'll probably fix itself after some time, but he's impatient arrrrgh technofingers. ]

[ a pause ]
Perhaps I could help. May I see it in person?
[ He probably can't, he's not very good at the hardware part yet. But man does he ever want a closer look. ]

[What is technology, really, she's from the 60s.]
Video;
I've written the base code, but it's variable--kind of smart, too. To... put it simply, the structure of the encryption changes with each application, so no, I can't just 'see' whatever you're filtering away. If you're worried though, which I can understand, get someone else to check it out.
[ well it's technically true, but no one needs to know that he's familiar with ALL the possible structures--thousands of them--and his own hacking augmentation can crack them within seconds. GOOD THING NOBODY KNOWS ABOUT THAT THO ]
Video;
[Tali, maybe.
She isn't sure she trusts the tech this place has given them anyway, though.]

Prosthetics of the future are way cooler than in the '90's. Got anyone to help you out yet? You look set for a game of basketball, but for anything else, that just seems awkward.
no subject
Yeah, I can pull of a real mean slam dunk. [ a soft chuckle. ]
And I'm not sure about that yet. What's your résumé.

[ He is not going to touch that encryption with a twenty foot pole or even a dismembered hand. If he can't keep a secret private then what can he keep? ]
no subject
The thought had crossed my mind. Is he the only one you know who's got some clue about advanced tech?
[ of course Adam is already aware of a few others but hey better use the official channels and inquire like a decent person... ]

voice forever;
If you don't know how to make things private, can you apply this to make things private when you want?
video though it might as well be voice since you dont see much!
These netbooks do have a simple private function but it's very rudimentary and universal. If you apply my encryption instead, it should at least be a little bit safer... I'm not that much of an expert on this, actually. [ Yeah yeah Pritchard would probably dissect this code and laugh at him because he's mostly relied on samples as found in his hacking device, but it's sufficient enough for this place. ] Also, it should give you a notification when someone tries to bypass your filter.
whoops well voice FOREVER for now!

Primarily I want to increase the physical presence of qualified security personnel. Then, maybe install more electronic equipment; additional cameras and security bots--should be doable. Improve the alarm system...
I'm not actually sure how much I can do about the network, but I doubt they'll let me screw with their code, anyway. [ which is probably for the best. ] However I know they have capable people around here, they probably just need to recruit a few more and tell them to start taking their job seriously. I'm sure no one wants a repeat of that VR disaster, either.
[ he's referring to you, initiative computer bro. ]

Interesting, Detective Sargent Danny Willams. Hawaii Five-0 by way of Newark PD. You have me beat, I'm from 2012.

That's still close enough, detective. Can't imagine too much has changed in that time frame.
[ aside from the tech--Adam should know since he joined the DPD around 2015 ... ]
