Hello, I hope everyone's New Year is off to a good start so far! I just had a couple of questions - well, one's a question and the other's more of an offer. Anyway, say that you've made a New Year's resolution to face one of your fears. Maybe even several of them! What would be the best way to go about trying to conquer those fears?

[Carol sounds a little enthusiastic about her next question - it's the first time she's bartered all on her own. Even if she has no idea what the heck she's doing.]

And the other thing I wanted to ask was if anyone would like to do some trading. I just came back from a mission with a fair amount of rice, so if anyone has any offers, I'd be glad to do some trades for it.

Hey, I hope everyone's managing to stay warm enough. I know some of us are still back on the moon base as well; how are things up there?

[Asbel pauses unneccessarily, as if halfway expecting a response -- somehow, even though he's still recording -- before he continues at a calm, measured pace.]

Anyway, a couple of thoughts. The next wave of Transports won't be arriving until the eighth, right? I was thinking maybe we could set aside some extra space for them. In cabins and wherever else people have found to live. That way, they can move out of the facility as soon as they're ready without having to worry so much about where to go. As such, is there anyone who's still looking for a place to stay?

Also, there are a lot of organizations and small groups among us. If you've started or are part of one of these, whether it's official or not, do you think you could tell me a little bit about their purpose and who else is involved? I'm not much for making lists, but I'd like to at least try to keep track of them all.

And lastly... [At this point, his posture slackens, and he spreads his hands casually.] It's more of a personal question and doesn't have anything to do with the rest. Do you remember any hobbies or activities you really enjoyed when you were young? Everyone's been talking about resolutions, and there's something I'd like to do in the upcoming year.

[ There's a little bit of fiddling around with his tablet. In fact he's not even looking at the screen for a good fifteen seconds as the video records his dumb face, before he finally looks up and gives it a bright and cheery grin! Gonna keep positive despite all the recent going ons of this place. ]

Well hello there, folks! It's been some time since I made one of these public announcements. Er, do they count as announcements? I suppose they are announcements of sorts. Can't say I've had much of a reason to, but it's been--

[ Looking back down at the tablet for another few quiet seconds. ]

Egads! Has it really been that long? I see it was with Miss Lalonde. What I wouldn't do to see that gal again. She'd know how to liven up the moment.

Which reminds me why I booted up this old computer in the first place. In light of recent incidents it might seem rather inappropriate to ask such a questions, but I do feel rather chagrin even bringing the whole thing up! But I'm looking to procure myself a cake, and possibly a few party goers if anyone's interested. You see today's date happens to be a personally big one for yours truly. Seems today I've not only made it to the ripe old age of seventeen, but I've reached my first full year here in this particular universe. Like a grim anniversary of sorts, but just because the occasions grim doesn't mean it can't be treated as an occasion to celebrate!

Ah, hello. I'm um, honestly not sure if this is the right time for this sort of thing, but I just received a message. I don't know who sent it, but it sounds like someone wrote this letter right before...

...well, before we all arrived here.

I can share it with whoever would like to read it, and I don't know if there's a lot more messages like this. I just don't think it'd be fair if I kept it to myself.

[And for any character who wants it, Carol will send them the Samir Renner memoir!]

I've been doing some thinking, and I've realized I've taken a lot of photographs while I'm here. I'd like to organize them in some kind of scrapbook but I'm not really sure how to get started. After all, I'd hate for all these pictures to sit here and collect dust, so I might as well use them for something, right? [She moves the video to show the photographs that are scattered all over the floor of her room. It looks like she's making an attempt to organize them. She smiles sheepishly.] As you can see, I've got a lot of them to go through yet! So if anyone could help, I'd be really grateful.

[She pauses a moment.]

That reminds me, I'm running low on film for my camera. Does anyone know where I could find some more?

[The answer is probably missions. She doesn't realize the answer is probably missions.]

video ⛔ 02 - failed filter

[ The way he's looking at the camera on his tablet, something's off. It may be noticeable to anyone who's been around him long enough and come to know him. The way his eyes appear clouded, his expression closed off, it's almost like he's only now just risen out of bed. And Joel's never been known for being a late riser. Doesn't make much sense, however, as he's already on the move outside in the rain - no umbrella, no backpack of supplies and weapons. Just the clothes on his back.

His tone and words are brusque, clipped, as he addresses his device. Oops, failed filter to Tess and Ellie.

Headin' out for the day. Might be a while. Don't wait up.

[Lily's still nervous, even after discovering that she's free of that underground facility. Not only does she not know what happened to her fellow test subjects, but it's a big change, and there will still be fighting. Will she accidentally hurt someone? She hopes not. She flips on the video feed. There are two things worth noting about the young girl's features. The first is that her eyes are yellow. Perhaps the most notable, however, is the metal collar around her neck. It doesn't look like jewelry.]

I just have a question for everyone. What do you do to relax when you're scared or upset?

[She doesn't want to mention the extent of her problems, but she shouldn't lie either. So she just won't say anything if she's not comfortable talking about it, or she'll change the subject. That usually works for her.]

This place is very different than what I'm used to, so I'd really appreciate any suggestions. Oh! And I'm also looking for flowers. The place I lived in didn't have any, and I've always wanted to smell real flowers. Thank you for your time.

[Carol's finding ways to pass the time while spending most of it reading in the library. She's read a lot of fantasy and romance fiction in her downtime, and it's making her a little nostalgic for the times her parents would read stories to her before bed. And since she's spent so much time in the library, she hasn't had much of a chance to get to talk to other people, which is driving her crazy because she's the kind of person who likes to talk to people.

So later in the evening, she'll find a quiet spot to use her tablet, in a place where she hopefully won't bother anyone.]

What kind of stories does everyone here like? I've been reading reading a lot of fantasy and romance stories, but since there's so many of us I'm sure everyone here has an interesting story to tell. Either something they've heard from back home or just a silly or interesting anecdote.

If it's not too much trouble, I'd like to hear some of these stories.

[This is also her way of finding out more about the people who live here too.]

[The past few days have been quite the culture shock for poor Carol. She's seen so many strange things already, from the city itself to the inhabitants that were brought here just like she was. Her camera's already almost full from all the pictures she's taken, and she's pretty sure Mr. Vice-President would be pleased with her if he knew how hard she was working at trying to gather information. Still, after being shoved into temporary housing, she's had a difficult time adjusting. And that's why she's been practically staying at the library for the past few days, doing hours of research just to find out the history of this place. Of course there's a lot to go over, and a lot to take in.

But there's something that's been bugging her since she arrived. And so she's finally going to try using that Tablet of hers to get some answers.]

Hello! Um, I was wondering if anyone knew if there was a local newspaper being run here. Back home, I worked for the Daily Days, a very prestigious newspaper company! And I thought that even though I've ended up in this strange place, I should keep working hard to continue delivering news to the public! I don't want to slack off after all...

If someone could give me some answers, I'd very much appreciate it!

[Action - Library.]

[And for people actually in the library, a little later on in the evening, there will be odd sounds coming from behind one of the large book shelves. If you choose to investigate, you'll find large stacks of books everywhere. At the center of this giant pile of books is a little girl curled up with a blanket and snoring.

Looks like someone tried to make their home in the library.]
