Hey, I hope everyone's managing to stay warm enough. I know some of us are still back on the moon base as well; how are things up there?

[Asbel pauses unneccessarily, as if halfway expecting a response -- somehow, even though he's still recording -- before he continues at a calm, measured pace.]

Anyway, a couple of thoughts. The next wave of Transports won't be arriving until the eighth, right? I was thinking maybe we could set aside some extra space for them. In cabins and wherever else people have found to live. That way, they can move out of the facility as soon as they're ready without having to worry so much about where to go. As such, is there anyone who's still looking for a place to stay?

Also, there are a lot of organizations and small groups among us. If you've started or are part of one of these, whether it's official or not, do you think you could tell me a little bit about their purpose and who else is involved? I'm not much for making lists, but I'd like to at least try to keep track of them all.

And lastly... [At this point, his posture slackens, and he spreads his hands casually.] It's more of a personal question and doesn't have anything to do with the rest. Do you remember any hobbies or activities you really enjoyed when you were young? Everyone's been talking about resolutions, and there's something I'd like to do in the upcoming year.

I wanted to be like my dad when I was young. He was smart, held a high position in our government and generally did well in whatever he put his mind too.

So I studied and did my best in school. I mostly just spent my time reading a lot on whatever I could I get get my hands on.

[Fathers. This sentiment is so unlike Asbel's own when he was younger. But he can relate a bit too, if only because he's been able to understand why his own father made the decisions he did.]

I see. Your father sounds like he was a really good leader.

So you tried to learn as much as you could, to someday take on a governmental role for yourself?

If any of the new arrivals need a place to stay, the cabin I stay at has enough room.

[She moves onto his question.]

When I was younger, I collected dolls or cute stuffed toys. I still did before I arrived here.

Thanks, Carol. I'll be sure to add you to the list. We've got a little extra space where I'm staying as well.

Stuffed animals and dolls, huh? I think Sophie keeps some of those. And you quit collecting them when you got here?

You're welcome. And it wasn't really by choice. When I first got here, I was only on Exsilium for a short time before we ended up going to the moon. I just really haven't had the time to collect any dolls or stuffed animals.

I see. That would explain it, then. [This isn't exactly an environment to maintain a lot of possessions. Even Asbel had to leave gear behind during the escape to the moon.]

When I was younger, I was always losing things, so I never really had a collection. But I did used to spend a lot of time exploring the area around my home.

it might be hard to set up spaces for new people when a lot of us are barely scraping by as it is

i'm part of the clinic and the ditr. the clinic runs like you'd think it would, though we don't have an official set up right now, what with the move down here. the ditr was created to foster communication/cooperation between the transports and the initiative, but without the initiative we're working out what our priorities should be now.

do you know of any particular shortages? i realize it's a tall order, but i feel like it'd be worthwhile to try finding everyone a place to stay.

and it sounds like everyone in the ditr has a lot to think about right now. good luck with that, i know it can't be easy.

everything. and honestly i think it might be a better idea to focus on making people self sufficient instead of trying to provide housing for 50+ people. the new initiative will let them stay in their set up for a little while, hopefully long enough for people to start finding other places to settle.

[Which is one of the things the DITR is looking at doing, helping people find individual housing and jobs, etc, but she doesn't want to say too much publically until everything's been discussed.]

and yes, but what if they can't find one in time? i understand the importance of being able to stand on your own, but at the same time, we're all in this together, aren't we? and what about special cases like children, non-combatants, and the elderly?

if people are simply kicked out of the facility without anywhere to go as back-up, it could lead to more problems down the road. overcrowding, cold-related illness, decreased morale... it could take longer for them to adjust to the situation and longer to prepare themselves for whatever's to come. that's why i'm worried.

have you heard about anyone being kicked out of the facility before they had somewhere to go?

[It's a genuine question, because she hasn't, but it's possible she just missed something.]

no, i've never actually heard of such a thing happening. i'm only trying to plan ahead. just in case. the people here seem kind of

skittish. i don't know what sorts of allowances they'll make.

Some people are more well set up than others. I'd say if anyone has spare space where they're kitted up, they should put their name on a list with how many people they can take and we can go from there

yeah... i'm beginning to see that. a list is a good idea, though. carol says her cabin has room for a few more, and there's space for at least one other person with us, maybe two.

but where should such a list be posted? on the network or somewhere else?

Make DITR maintain it if they're so keen to do something. They already handle greeting newcomers, might as well make placing them their business as well

But a copy of the list on the network and a physical copy in the transporter compound would be a start

all right. i'll propose the idea to them, and see what they have to say about it. either way, i'll let them know there's at least a little spare room available for those who need a place.

If there's anything I can do to help prepare, I'd like to. I've only more recently arrived but I guess the only organization I'm part of would be the clinic.

Resolutions?

[A nod.] There's lots you can do. I mean, if everything else goes as normal, we'll have about fifty new comrades who'll need someone to show them the ropes and help them adjust.

And resolutions are when you make a goal or a promise to yourself for the upcoming year? To better yourself in some way, or to accomplish something you've been putting off for a while. [At least from what he's been able to pick up.]

It did seem rather crowded and all when I first got here. I'd like to be around to try and help if we get more people here if I can.

Oh. I didn't really think about something like that. In that case....

My resolution will be to pet Repede!

Yeah, you're right. It does get that way. A lot of groups and organizations set up around the Transporter when newcomers are set to arrive - including the clinic. They'll probably be needing things like coats and gloves this time around.

[Well, that's different. Curiously:] Who's Repede?

Right. Well, I help at the clinic so I'll do what I can at least.

Repede is Yuri's dog. He doesn't seem to like me, but I'm not going to give up!

That sounds great!

[Yuri never really struck him as the type to keep pets.] Huh. I never knew that guy had a dog. So, you're a friend of his?
