[It isn't his laptop, but he manages to figure out the basics in short order. So have a patented pair of Sam Winchester's puppy dog eyes staring at the screen.]

Uh - hey. I'm not sure if anyone else out there can really hear me. To tell you the truth, I'm still not convinced that any of this is real.

[Sure, he's seen more than his share of strange things. But his dreams have been equally bizarre. He's sort of hoping for the latter.]

I'm looking for someone. His name is Dean.

[Or maybe he's under an alias. But he really doesn't feel like covering the list that ranges from "Dr. James Hetfield" to "Sigfried Houdini"]

He's got brown hair, brown leather jacket, hazel eyes - I think. Anyway, if anyone can hear me, and they see him, tell him...tell him that his brother is looking for him.

And they used Dean to learn about emotions?

[At least the Initiative's motives are ones he can understand.]

Yes. [ Their wardens were... unusual, and a complete mystery to everyone on the island. He's not sure which place is worse, but at least the Initiative seems more manageable.

All that aside, Dean might not like where this conversation is going. ]

...I don't think we're supposed to talk about it.

And why not?

[Not that he's in any position to bitch about keeping secrets right about now. But he also remembers the secrets that Dean kept when he returned from hell.]

Castiel, what sort of situations did they put you in?

A variety of them, none of which are of import now.

[ It's an evasive answer, but he knows Dean wouldn't like him talking about it, least of all to his brother. ]

Where are you currently?

[Riiiight. Sam blinks, but lets it drop. For the moment.]

Still around the newcomer block, waiting on Dean.

[ Aaaand the feed cuts. ]

[ Followed shortly by the not-so-surprising and sudden appearance of Castiel. ]

[Sudden and still a little startling. To his credit, Sam doesn't jump.]

Castiel. Looks like you still have your powers.

Yes. [ The subtle hint of a smile on his face falters, however, now that Castiel has had a more up-close and personal look at the hunter. ]

...You seem different. What year are you from?

[Castiel seems...well, pretty Castiel-ish right about now. Though he still gets a strange look for the question.]

Two thousand and nine...why?

...That does explain a few things.

[ Castiel turns away, frowning. Now there are two people who he's not sure are prepared to hear what happens next, although Jo's ending is... far more grim. ]

Perhaps I should consult with your brother before I reveal much about your future.

[Castiel turns away from him, and Sam feels a little bit of anger, frustration bubbling up.]

Why do you have to talk to Dean first if it's my future? I think I have a right to know!

Because, Sam -- [ The angel turns around to face the younger Winchester, stoic intensity in the face of Sam's frustration. ] I do not know how this knowledge would affect you in your... current state.

You should at least take comfort in knowing that you will redeem yourself. [ Castiel reaches up, seeking to rest a hand on his shoulder. ] I hope this restores some faith in yourself.

What does that even mean? My current state? Castiel, how much worse could it possibly get?

[He takes a step closer, trying to get himself under control.]

I think I can take it.

[And he's not even really sure of that. But he wants to know so badly.]

You redeem yourself in the eyes of your family and friends. [ He would have once said, before God, but even his faith in Him is all but shattered. Instead, he allows his fingers to squeeze reassuringly on Sam's shoulder before he drops it. ] But at great cost. In the end, you sacrifice yourself to save the world from Lucifer.

...It is a very long story.

[ Not to mention an unhappy one, once Raphael enters the picture and tries undoing everything they worked so hard for. ]

[Sacrificed himself. Really, those are the words he should probably focus on. But he's a Winchester. That's practically in the job description.]

[He sighs, and some of the tension leaves his body. Castiel has reassured him about the important parts. The things that matter the most.]

So Dean. He's okay then?

More than that.

[ Dean has come a long way since Sam's death, but only when Sam returned... and... after certain other developments, made in another world. ]

He took your death well, but neither of us were content to allow you to languish in the Cage. [ Castiel directs his gaze away, looking guilty. ] I fear that my actions caused you grievous harm, despite the best of intentions.

...Are you certain you wish to hear this? It is... not pleasant, and many regrettable things have come to pass.

What?

[And now that alarm is back. But he should've realized. Since when could they just leave things be?]

Exactly what sort of 'things'? Look, I told you I could take it. And keeping secrets has done nothing but cause trouble!

[That's one lesson still fresh on his mind.]

It... does not look good... for me.

[ That guilty expression says it all -- He isn't eager to admit his misgivings, just like anyone else wouldn't want to reveal how they royally, utterly fucked everything up. ]

...I'm sorry, Sam. I never intended for any harm to come to you.

Castiel.

[He isn't sure what to say to that at first. But Castiel's words, the look on his face...]

Do you wanna talk about it?

[ Castiel's brow creases with sympathy or concern, perhaps a mixture of both. ]

No.

[ Doesn't beat around the bush, does he? ]

[Sam looks at him for a second longer before snorting.]

You sound like Dean right now.

[ Castiel's brows lift, not sure if this is a compliment or not. Either way, he looks... vaguely flattered by it. ]

...I suppose you are waiting for his arrival? He is meeting you here, is he not?

Yeah, I'm expecting him any minute.

[Sam's expression turns serious, concerned.]

How is he, Cas? Really.

Surprised to see so many familiar faces, I imagine.

Your friend, Jo... the demon Meg, whose shape she now possesses would be unfamiliar to you, as I recall... and of course there's you and your father.

[ But it's true -- Dean is doing remarkably well, considering everything. ]

He should be arriving soon, perhaps I should leave you to catch up.

Yeah, it's some reunion.

[Naturally, one of those things is not like the other. Sam looks at him a moment longer before nodding.]

Yeah. I'll catch up with you later.
