This is most certainly a change. To be quite honest, I am not very fond of these leaps and bounds into the future. I become rather fond of 1962 as history rages on.

Nevertheless.

I've been somewhat limited in my time since arriving here. You see, my mutation does not function in the same way. It's very distressing.

It is with that in mind that I ask you all whether or not the same thing is occurring for you. Have you noticed any dampening of your natural abilities? Perhaps abilities that were not necessarily of the norm?

Ah! No, that is all-right, I can attempt to do so without it.

( Charles certainly attempts to read the boy's mind, fingertips pressed to his temple as he does. He knows this is an unstable experiment -- he could certainly be too far away, if not completely incapable of reading such minds.

He gets his answer soon enough, his capabilities limited to a rather surprising string of ones and zeroes. A sort of stirring, repetitive 01101010 01110101 01101001 01100011 01100101 01100010 01101111 01111000 01100101 01110011 00001101 00001010 that surprises him at first. )

I -- oh! I'm afraid I don't... I don't believe I am able to read your mind, Nik.

Awww! That's okay! Good job Mister Charles you tried really hard! [ Not that Nik has any real evidence one way or another, but he's sure Mister Charles did try his hardest. ]

[ He's secretly sad though. He'd sort of been hoping that maybe Charles could read some of the stuff going on inside of Nik's head that he didn't understand, and that all the engineers and programmers and mechanics who'd looked at him didn't understand either. ]

( Charles' smile was evident in his voice as he replied, and he was curious about the numbers he'd heard in the boy's mind. He made a soft sound, a thoughtful one as he considered what he ought to say. )

I am sorry that I cannot read your mind! That is to say, unless the ones and zeroes are anything to account for--it was still very fascinating! You are very fascinating too, of course.

Oh! Ones and zeroes are really good! Part of me thinks in ones and zeroes for sure. Maaaaybe you just need a translator...
