I have information to share with you all, about information that we lack.

[a pause.]



For as long as we have endured this world, changed it or watched it change well beyond our control, the amount we do know is vastly smaller than what we don’t. Perhaps never will. So it is that our struggles are like...swiping in the dark, feeling out shapes and phantoms we can perceive as guesses at best. Or, maybe better...there are suggestions of light to trace out those shapes, but never enough to be certain. Only enough to strike.

The artificial intelligence we rescued has confirmed there is no exact point recorded for the origin of the United Earth’s ruling computer. It makes sense: History is written and told by those in power. The less we understand about it, so more is the advantage and threat it has against us. As it stands, we don’t know what dire impact we may have caused in altering the world to this state. We don't know how long days like these can last, what is in the works over there.

Regardless of what is chosen for our steps in the future, I believe it in everyone’s interest to know about this machine’s past. AI has offered the chance to piece together the missing history of the United Earth, should we wish it.

[another pause.]

The problem with this is the exact one it seeks to resolve: I can’t tell you what to expect.

The point of focus to start is the very day the United Earth is established, and the records of it are vague at best, pointedly pro-UE throughout. What may be waiting there could be dangerous or not at all.

It’s why this is something everyone should hear and understand. Something everyone can put a hand in, in some way. Powerful fighters, quick-thinking saboteurs, hackers, healers…

But going in all at once, as an army, may not be the best approach. A small number to survey, relay information, and signal reinforcements should there be a need...Which means a greater number waiting on standby for a potential call.

The AI itself can be carried to this point in time by way of one of the diamond drives, and, given the chance to digest as much as it can in that particular point in time...it can clear the path for greater understanding of what was at work to build this enemy.

It means this isn’t a single trip, but the springboard to a number of missions. It’s knowledge to be gained to make wiser choices for the here and now...and tomorrow and yesterday, perhaps. I can’t say what’s right, how much of a hand we should have in this world’s history.

At the least, we can paint for ourselves a better picture of the world we are all trapped in...and, maybe, glean some sense of what kind of impact we make on it, living as we do.

Should you wish to do this, I can give you what little information there is to work with. And that's something that can change and grow.

It's having to fumble in the dark for a light switch, finding many, and flipping those switches until the right ones light the way.

But I can give you what I have, so far.

There is...little else I can tell you beyond this, truly. The AI gave me prospective dates, warned they will fluctuate once even one visit gives it enough to reconfigure historical data.

What we do know of the United Earth's AI is isolated to what harm has already been done to us.

The mission I just returned from relied a lot on a dummy AI that we brought along in one of the drives, so I do have experience helping get those settled in the field, if that's useful at all. I'm more of a planner than a fighter, however.

Your knowledge is an advantage to all of us. With how little we know to expect, quick wits will be as valuable as any trait.

A camera and computer, however, I can not cover the eyes of. I should require one who is skilled in such manipulation to compliment mine own actions. After such, I can guarantee safety of mine team, barring foolishness.

I've spoken to people here who possess abilities like this. I will hope they wish to help, as well, if not for the allure of new data, but the chance to protect you and others.

That's the thing, Rosette. There's no certainty that would even be necessary...or if it will be the only thing to keep you safe.

Not yet. Much depends on who is willing to participate, what they can do...And even then, clearer plans can only be made once we've gotten more data to help others in missions following.

If there's truth in your words, it doesn't matter. We need all the strength we have, and that includes the technology. It's technology we're fighting with, after all.

There's been a lot of conjecture, lately, that each mission is a miniature genocide. We create unstable time paths that don't geometrically qualify as loops, and every single person on that unaltered version of earth is left behind. How does such an expansive series of investigations as yours play into that theory?

[There is a pause the girl doesn't really intend to be a beat.]

Your answer to the question doesn't change my assent to your call for aid, of course. I've been contributing my strength to this cause for the past year.

I've heard this talk, and talk like it. [thanks, Karkat.] It's unsettling...devastating, if true, but. It's an unknown, like all of this. I feel we will fare better in knowing our impact, being able to adjust it wisely, rather than haphazardly as we are for our own convenience.

I don't speak for everyone obviously, but if Small will let up restrictions on our access to the transport pad my bet is that anyone who was held for the lock down would be willing to chip in. Might be a better bet to send us in to the shakier territory as it is; we're supposed to be doing the shit jobs no one else wants to risk
