Why have we not returned to Exsilium? The danger is over, isn't it?

[Kili looks frustrated and tired. He's not used to being cooped up indoors like this, and no one can really blame a dwarf for not understanding radiation. and nuclear bombs.]

This place wasn't meant for living on. We can't even go outdoors! It doesn't feel like we're living anymore, merely... surviving.

And Kang, forgive me, but it seems it will be a while longer before I can continue with the blade my uncle forged you.

I guess you're right. [He smiles sheepishly.]

Perhaps I am but perhaps not. It's how I try to see things, it makes the situation more bearable.

[Kili nods thoughtfully.] That sounds like something Bofur might say.

Bofur? [That's a new name.]

Is he a friend or kin?

Friend. He came with us, on the quest. And I've known him since I was a dwarfling.

I see, it's good to have friends that you've known so long.

[Kili nods.] Mum used to have people over for dinner whenever we had extra food. It wasn't often, but she said it wasn't fair for us to not share with others who didn't have food.

[Smiling fondly:] Your mother is a wonderfully generous woman.

[He smiles as well, though there's a sadness and a longing in his eyes.]

I can't wait to see her again. I...I almost wish she'd come here, just so I could see her. [Kili takes a deep breath.] Things seem so much more real, since...well...since the party. I really don't want to die, Bri.

[His voice trembles, and Kili laughs suddenly, shaking his head.] Sorry, I...I just wonder sometimes if I'll ever see her again.

[Aww Kili. You really make her want to find you and gather you into a hug.]

You won't die again, Kili. I'm sure of it. I don't plan to find myself in any other dangerous situations again and I should hope that you and Fili can hold your own in battle so I won't be seeing either of you needing to visit the Healers.

[You know what, she just might try to come find you now.] I'm sure you will, once we all get home.

[Kili shrugs, not entirely convinced.] But once we get home, I still have a whole quest to complete, and then Mother has to journey all the way to Erebor before I can see her.

[Sigh]

I'm...I think I'm finally growing up. And I'm starting to wish Thorin hadn't decided to attempt this quest at all.

Why not meet her while she travels? You would see each other much sooner than way, once your quest is over.

[Aww, Kili.]

I wouldn't say you're finally growing up, I'm sure you've done plenty of that already. It may be that, being so far from home and from what you'd once been so focused on, you're seeing things differently, more clearly?

That's not a bad idea. [Kili smiles faintly.] If we're up to traveling again.

[He considers that for a few moments and nods slowly.] I think you're right.

Up to it? [How far could it possibly be from Erebor to... where ever his mother is?]

I might be, I can only suggest it as a possibility.

It's a long journey. [Kili smiles ruefully.] It'll take months.

[He shrugs a little.] I like your ideas.

It would be worth it though, wouldn't it?

[Kili, you're talking to the lady who makes frequent trips from Rivendell to Lorien.]

I'm glad to hear that.

'S true, aye.

[It's hardly as if he knows that. Not that he'd realize how far apart those were. Most dwarves don't even know for a fact that Lorien exists.]
