[Despite everything that's happened in the last few days, Steph looks positively cheery as she comes onto the screen, dressed in civvies with her hair pulled back into a loose ponytail. She might not have worn the particular suit for a couple years now, but she's all Robin, all grins and charm, because she doesn't have the energy to be anything else.]

Hey, guys, I know this is kinda last minute, but there's been a change in plans with the whole cookie thing this month. [She holds up a hand as if silencing comments that aren't actually going to come, because this is pre-recorded.] I know, I know, I'm not exactly the regular guy that does this, but don't adjust your sets, Jesse's just come down with a hell of a cold, so I'm gonna run things this time 'round.

For those of you who don't know, I'm Steph, hi, I don't bite very hard.

Since Jesse's sick, we figured it'd be best not to cook in his kitchen, 'cause I'm sure we don't wanna give the newbies the sniffles when they first show up. If anyone who's normally involved would like to volunteer their kitchen to be the base of operations, I would love you forever, but if not we can just use my place, 104.

[And a briefly apologetic look because she hasn't actually asked her roommates. Sorry guys.]

We'll still be doing it on the 31st, starting early and hopefully finishing early so we can all head over to Ella's party, and the tent will be set up at the same time on the first, you'll just have me co-ordinating things intead of Jesse.

If anyone has any questions or concerns, now's the time to voice them, if not, I'll see you on the 31st, either at mine, or I'll update this if we get a volunteer.

( Last time he'd gone hard and fast and sunken eyed through the withdrawals. Months back, he'd blown up a train hoping to end something that she suspects might have led back to himself.

She doesn't know that he's tried this, now, but if she did learn, it wouldn't be as surprising as it might have been. )

Yeah, no problem! I can't do the bake forever thing, but I'm an all natural kind of girl, and I can probably make eyes at Gilbert and get him to help too.

[Collette's question answers some of Steph's about how much she knows, so it's a bit easier to answer honestly.]

The more the merrier! As long as they can handle Break popping out from corners. I think it's his hobby, startling people, so probably don't let Ellie come by without some warning!

Okay, I think I'll stay away for now. I don't want to pull time on him or anything. Plus I don't know what to do. This keeps happening and... Anyway, Stan's not still living there, is he?

I know. People have to want to change themselves. Jesse wants to change some things, but... it's never been him. At least when he's been doing this with the cookies it's kind of been good? I liked to think so.

And Stan needs to get re=homed or moved or whatever the Initiative does for us. I know he made you angry, and he shouldn't have done what he did, but he's also made this whole video for me of him singing in the rain (literally? I think it;s based on the song but also was literal!) and I think he's a good guy at heart, but --

I dunno. Being around Jesse like that can't be good when it's where you live. You don't get away from not so good things if they're always waiting for you back home.

[It's not Collette's fault, but Steph doesn't want to talk about all this, not the fact that Jesse's a lost cause or that Stan isn't safe there or... anything, really.

But she sucks it up, because it's more important than her own feelings.]

i know, about stan. do you want me to talk to saul or something about seeing if it can be arranged?

we'll have to talk to stan, too, but we can just check if it's possible, first.

[You know what else she doesn't wanna do: talk to Saul.

I don't think he wants to talk to either of us. I don;t think he really likes me all that much, to be honest.

( Which hurts, because most the time, she can at least figure out why, and with Stan, the figurings lead toward things she simply doesn't know. )

I wouldn't tell Saul. Saul's not good for that stuff! He's kind of full of hot air about Stan, so... Anyway, maybe we can tell someone else on the council thing and have them suggest a housing reassignment to the Initiative? Since they have to with people in temporary housing before there's room opening up in the apartments. I hope they finish the next floor soon.

he's probably just scared of me, thinks i'll come after him in all my batgirl fury if he talks to you.

What? But why? Okay, then Sue sounds perfect. There's not much we could do with the spaceship... and Nate and Gamora minimized all the rest of the damages by picking a place that could be rebuilt. Or be controlled! Imaging crashing down in any of the other populated areas. It'd have been so bad!

[It seems oddly egotistical to say "I'm kind of scary", but that's basically what she means.]

No crying over spilt milk! We found a lot. We did what we were supposed to. No what ifs or should haves for the past! Collecting regrets like that won't take you to better places. It only gets you lost.

[That's... probably not something she'd admit if she wasn't so tired and stressed out over the whole mess with Jesse and Saul.

It's also not a very grammatically correct sentence, but she hopes Collette will understand.]

That's not all guilt will do, Steph. Be careful! Wear too many weights, and you stop being able to swim at all. There's a difference between remembering and learning and letting things go to keep going on, and holding on to all of them 'cause you think if you don't, you're going to be worse off. You've got friends around you! Let us help with some of the burden.

[She doesn't know how to respond to that. Mostly, it's because she knows that Collete is right, but she's not in a place right now where she can actually listen or change things.]
