Bullshit is showing up here with everything on me but my comic books. All those Savage Starlight issues, gone. Just like that. Fuck you too, Initiative.
[A pause. Ellie's never really addressed a group of people. Technology is crazy. Okay, there was a point to this whole thing.]
... anyway, guess I just wanted to say thanks to the people that helped me out when I got here. I found who I was looking for, so. Didn't wanna leave anyone with a cliffhanger.

voice;
[Huh.]
Really? Why?
voice;
Well... my world is pretty shitty. People tend to horde the good stuff, and I guess that includes comic collections, too.
voice;
[Not that Asuka has room to talk, considering what she tends to say about other countries and nationalities.]
Sounds pretty bad. There's no way it could be worse then this dump, though. Right?
voice;
It's worse. Way worse. This place is a fucking vacation.
voice;
[Says Asuka without a trace of irony.
Of course, she gets a bit more sympathetic as the topic shifts.]
This place? A vacation-?
[Well, come to think of it...]
I guess so. But it must've been horrible!
voice
[Ellie barely knows where some countries are. World geography often gets pushed aside when you're struggling to survive.]
There's always someplace worse.
voice
[Only the best country ever.]
You're probably right. Things can always be worse.
voice
At least here, we've got showers. Definitely one of the best things about this place.

[Someone has taken to looooong showers.]
voice
[This is amazing to her. A place worse off then here? Even her homeworld was up and running by the time she could actually remember anything.]
voice
We have school and shit like that, too. Plumbing and electricity are just hard to come by.
[The military and the privileged made sure to guard all that well.]
voice
Even we weren't hit that badly after Second Impact. That sounds so... weird.

[Her voice drops into a drawl that implies that anyone who doesn't know what Second Impact is is a total idiot. At least until she catches herself. Not everyone knows about her world!]
Oh, right - uh. Basically, you know how a giant meteor impact four billion years caused the formation of the moon? Second Impact refers to a second impact meteorite that hit Antarctica in 2000. Half of the global population was wiped out either because of the impact or the resource wars afterwards.
permavoice!
... yeah, I'm pretty sure that Second Impact never happened in my world. Mine's the way it is because of an infection that happened in 2013. We've lost a little over half of the world's population. Things just sorta fell apart.

[That's eerily similar in a "humanity got wiped out" way.]
That sounds like it's miserable. At least we didn't have to deal with the plague!

It's worst for people who were actually around before it happened. They remember how shit used to be.
no subject
Yeah, probably. Growing up in it is different, I guess - I mean, there's just stuff that doesn't happen anymore.
