Oh, right - uh. Basically, you know how a giant meteor impact four billion years caused the formation of the moon? Second Impact refers to a second impact meteorite that hit Antarctica in 2000. Half of the global population was wiped out either because of the impact or the resource wars afterwards.

[A pause on this end. A meteor impact created the moon? Ellie didn't know that, but then again, Ellie doesn't know a lot of things. So, sure. She'll go with it.]

... yeah, I'm pretty sure that Second Impact never happened in my world. Mine's the way it is because of an infection that happened in 2013. We've lost a little over half of the world's population. Things just sorta fell apart.
