Oh Auldrant, my world, there are seven different types of fonons...er...elemental particles. Those that can utilize these are called fonists.
Some, like myself, combine fonons and technology into what is called fontech. Fontech can be anything things, from airships, to smaller devices, such as...this tablet. My current theory is that is utilizes some form of seventh fonon wavelength...er...the seventh fonon being attuned to memory to communicate across vast distances and record and transmit data. Perhaps tied to the third fonon, wind, to provide movement of the particle waves across the distances.

And, of course, the sixth fonon, light, is used, as well. It's quite a curious piece of technology! I do wonder if we can obtain a secondary one...I might like to pick one apart and see what is inside.

The 1st is Darkness, called Shadow. The 2nd is Earth, called Gnome. The 3rd is Wind, named Sylph. The 4th is Water, called Undine. The 5th is Fire- Ifrit. The 6th is Light- Rem, and the 7th is memory, or Lorelei.
Everything is made up of natural particles, and fonons. Each thing has a different fonic frequency, generally speaking- the vibrations caused by fonons within an object are rarely perfectly aligned with another object, except in special cases.

Fontech itself is the tool that is used, but can be many, many different things. for example- when I was a child, I constructed myself a 5th fonon-based fontech device that served as a heater.
