[ Video opens on Roslyn at her desk in the police office, well dressed as she holds up her badge in front of her for a little bit before placing it back down on the desk. The office is small and cramped and clearly actively in use by the piles of folders, even if they're neatly stacked and arranged. ]

Some time ago, the police force was unfortunate enough to lose Inspector Barnaby, Sergeant Howe, and Sergeant Calhoun back to their homes. Their service was appreciated and will be missed.

In their absence, I am currently assuming the reigns as Detective Chief Inspector of the Transport Affairs Unit. I wanted to reassure the population that the police will continue to operate with integrity and dedication. Should you ever require our services, we can be found at [ address & ooc link ].

For those of you considering joining the force, we are always welcoming new recruits and the pay is reasonable. Serving as an officer is a way to help mend the fences between us and the natives and earn a living. Thank you for your time.

I understand. But here, being used to normalcy is a hindrance on the job rather than a help.

May I ask where on the spectrum you fall?

[ the memory of the day that never happened, where she and her sisters were exposed for being extraordinary, still lingers in her mind. it's that memory which causes her regret for even starting this line of conversation, but she has seen, since she first arrived, that things in exsilium were nothing like home. people understood, people were accepting, and people were simply not normal. it's with that thought that piper doesn't deny that she is not a boring human, and that her question was merely one of curiosity, with no hidden intent behind it at all. ]

Both normal and not have their advantages and disadvantages. It depends on the situation and what needs doing.

[ A pause, considering. ]

Were you considering joining the force?

I was. Helping people - badgeless, mostly - was something that I used to do back home.

If you want to do it with a badge as well, we would be happy to have you.

Are there guns involved?

[ piper's brows draw together before she actually frowns. ]

Scrap that. Weapons - the ones we were given on arrival - is there a yay or nay in using those?

[ since her weapon is practically her power, piper is sort of not continuing to expose herself as a witch y/n/just give up already. ]

[ Roslyn tilts her head, and then taps a piece of paper on her desk as if to indicate the official policy this comes from. ]

We issue service weapons, which are guns. They are the preferred weapon of use for a police officer, but we do understand that some weapons or innate abilities may be very well suited to the job and allow their usage.

[ A pause. ] The policy is still a work in progress. I've never had to deal with this particular set up before, so it will depend on how things go.

[ piper knows this, since daryl's a cop, and he's always got his gun. but she doesn't have the best experience with guns. even if it's an alternate timeline and ceases to exist, it'd killed her before. and carrying one when she's so used to moving her hands is not something she wishes upon herself or anyone around her. ]

Is there a way to sign up but somehow not get a gun in my welcoming package?

[ she pauses and considers. it's a situation she's never really run into before. cops carry guns, that's just how it always was in her experience. but then British cops hadn't - most cops in the native division didn't. ]

It wouldn't be difficult to arrange at all. If you'd like to come in we can discuss it more thoroughly, but the short answer is yes.

[ honestly, piper, could you be anymore obsessive over not getting a gun? but she does look a little sheepish, if only to deepen her apology. ]

Technically, I'm Detective Chief Inspector. But captain will work just fine too.

Are you the only person running this entire thing?

Not at all. I'm running the transport section only. The commissioner runs the rest and is my boss as well.
