[Barbara’s been here a few days, now. She’s explored a good chunk of the city after memorising the maps. She’s scrolled through dozens of network posts, getting a feel for her sudden compatriots. (In other words, "building an extensive database of files".)

She still feels out of her element – she has no tower, here, no network of power and persuasion – but she’s slowly starting to relax.

So her smile is more or less genuine when she makes her own introduction.]

Hello, everyone. I’m Barbara. [She considered an alias, back when she first arrived, but she didn’t see much point.] I'm new, so I've got my fair share of questions. [A fleeting, rueful smile that hides her frustration.]

How well-integrated have the Transports become? How many of you have jobs here? Have we set up any regulations or enforcement? Has anyone attempted any sort of education system? [She knows some of this already, but she'd like a number of experiences and perspectives.]

A few things, honestly, but most immediately - my main expertise is computers, but I'm pretty good with machines in general.

Oh, yeah? Do you know anything about cars?

[She grins.] I do. Always preferred motorcycles, though.

—Really? [Her eyes light up, and she stares delightfully for juuust a second!]

I just happen to have a motorcycle here! I'd be happy to let you come and take a look at it. Can you ride?

[Oh, she's beaming now.] I'd love to.

[Then her smile turns rueful, as she shakes her head.] I used to, but...

[She pushes herself back, enough so that the chair is visible.]

[Her looks upon the chair with empathy. Spirits, how much would it suck for her to not be able to ride again? Even after she's been in so many accidents, she never quite gave the idea much thought.

Her expression doesn't last long before she assumes one more uplifting once again.]

Well, I'll let you tinker around all you'd like. When are you free?

[Her expression tenses, a little, at the look - but she expected it, and it's only natural. She misses it - the wind whipping her face and throwing her hair, the city zipping past in a blur of colour and chaos. Of course another rider would feel bad for her.]

That would be great, and I can't say I've really gotten a schedule marked out yet. [Give her time.] Any time would be good right now.

My friend Sokka and I have a little garage; you should come drop by whenever you get a chance. I bet we could both learn a thing or two from you. I'll send you directions, is that okay?

That's perfect.

[She sends her a text message with directions mapped out from headquarters.]
