It becomes quickly apparently why- it seems his hands and locks of his hair are tangled up with strips of brightly colored leopard print duct tape. Someone attempted to do home repairs when they knew absolutely nothing about home repair. The background shows one giant hole in the wall about six inches in diameter, just to give you an idea. Allen is next to him, trying to get some of the duct tape off]

Okay okay- I'll ask! Just get me outta this stuff!

[He gives a huff and looks at the camera. He looks rather disgruntled]

Say, does anyone out there know where a person can get a couch? Ours kinda...got wrecked the other day and we can't fix it.

Oh and, stuff to seal up holes in the wall? That'd be good too.

[That's. Very sweet and all, and Allen isn't going to say that it sounds silly to Sophie,

Er, well. I don't know that that's necessary...

[Kaneis's eyes meanwhile widen themselves. Seriously, he'd much prefer the battle method. And a friendship that last forever? With Allen? Hahahaha...]

[But he thinks about his options. He doesn't want to do a pact, but he sees one of two paths. One path would upset Sophie, the other would put Allen on the spot]

[ It is not silly and she truly believes in it! A friendship pact totally works. And she hates seeing both Kaneis and Allen arguing... be friends, you two!

Hearing Kaneis's question, has her making a worried look... ]

[—OH NO YOU DON'T, KANEIS. You jerk. YOU'VE TURNED SOPHIE AGAINST HIM.

HE KNOWS YOU DON'T WANNA BE HIS FRIEND FOREVER. Now Allen's the one left debating between two equally unappealing choices, lips pressed into a thin line as he turns to squint at Kaneis.

And then smoothly breaks into a disarming sort of smile, appearing just a tinge hurt by what Kaneis said. He's not sure this will get him out of it, but he's willing to try,]

But— even though we might argue... I thought we were friends already.

[he gives a small sigh, slumping against the couch in a dejected hurt trust sort of way. Almost like this is a let down]

I mean, if you really thought we were friends- then what'd be wrong with making a pact about it? I mean - it's good to hope that a friendship last forever, right?

Allen... you're upsetting Kaneis...

[ Or so she thinks. Seeing Kaneis's dejected behavior is further upsetting Sophie, and perhaps turning her even more against Allen. KANEIS LOOKS SO DOWN. ]

I know that two of you are friends now, even if you argue. But don't you want to make that friendship last forever, no matter what?

[Hngnnn ugh. So he's gonna play it this way, huh. What a terrible actor!

But Allen refuses to upset Sophie further, or come off looking like the smaller man here, so he soon holds out his left hand to Kaneis, palm down. His smile turns bright (daring.)

Even if Kaneis doesn't back down, it would be fine if they can get away with just this much!]

Then you carve your names on a tree. [ She turns in a circle, looking around at the apartment. Of course, there's no tree here, but after what Flora told her about carving on trees... ] Maybe it's okay to carve your names on the wall.

[Tenderly? UGH. But whatever, Kaneis's hand-touching is easy enough to tolerate.

He. Might have to put his foot down at wall-carving. As gently as he can:]

We're trying to repair the walls right now, I don't think we should be marking them up anymore...

[Oh thank the goddess an actual opportunity to reject]

Yeah...Asch would pitch a fit if we carved up the wall he's supposed to fix.

Then we have to find somewhere else to carve your names. I don't think we can use a tree anymore... it hurts them. [ She says it like this is some new and shocking thing for her... because it is. Asbel never told her about the hurting trees part!!! ]

[Wait... what?

He's no botanist, but he's pretty sure trees can't feel pain. Or, uh, anything.]

How does it hurt them...?

[he shrugs at Allen's question; like he knows. Other than stuff he needed to be a healer, like he paid attention to biology in school]
