[A rare video feed from Kaneis comes on, partly because one of his roommates had to turn on the tablet. It becomes quickly apparently why- it seems his hands and locks of his hair are tangled up with strips of brightly colored leopard print duct tape. Someone attempted to do home repairs when they knew absolutely nothing about home repair. The background shows one giant hole in the wall about six inches in diameter, just to give you an idea. Allen is next to him, trying to get some of the duct tape off]

Okay okay- I'll ask! Just get me outta this stuff!

[He gives a huff and looks at the camera. He looks rather disgruntled]

Say, does anyone out there know where a person can get a couch? Ours kinda...got wrecked the other day and we can't fix it.

Oh and, stuff to seal up holes in the wall? That'd be good too.

Thanks in- [And then he YELLS "OW" as Allen his roommate pulls a piece out of his hair not so gently]

It's too late Emil, they've already been sucked into the hat idea. There's no hope that I'm gonna get outta this without one.

[SMILE SMILE. He looks over at Kaneis's hair.] Well, how's the water doing?

[Not Allen, never Allen. But he'll pull out a lock and try pulling at it, frowning]

Well, it's a little looser...

[ She's just gonna watch and staaaare. ] ...Try using more water. I guess Plan A is working. [ Slowly. Trip to the hat shop will be canceled...? ]

[Are you gonna deny poor Sophie a trip to the hat shop, Kaneis?

Allen just shrugs.]

Are you going to be able to get it out this way?

[Come on, guys, that's the real hat-deciding question!]

[Yeah...he's noticing Sophie's look there. The look of puppy dog eyes]

Uh...I dunno! How about you guys go the hat shop, and I'll see what I can do about Plan A?

[That's right Emil, Sophie kinda has him whipped. ]

[ Oh boy, a trip to the hat shop! How exciting! But wait- ] ...You're not going to come with us?

[Even hat shopping sounds preferable to dealing with Kaneis's hair troubles.]

He can stay here! That way, whichever hat we pick for him will be a surprise.

Then do you want me to come along, or should I stay here?

[Okay, hat shopping. Are they going to need a chaperone? No, Emil would make a terrible chaperone that's a terrible idea. Allen doesn't look that different in age than what Emil is supposed to be anyway. Maybe he's more useful trying to pry duct tape out of Kaneis's hair.]

Sorry Sophie, I gotta stay back here and make sure Plan A works.

[And you know, he would be caught dead before leaving the apartment with duct tape on his hair]

Why don't you go with them, Emil? They could use the extra help picking out hats, and many you'll want one too.

[What with that face twin running around and everything...]

All right. We'll keep it a surprise.

[ It'll be fun! And yes, Sophie's going to feel too conflicted only picking a single hat, they might as well buy multiple hats. ]

Yeah, Emil. Come with us!

[Allen looks at Emil, with a amiable sort of smile. He doesn't know the guy, so he won't pressure him to join them. But it seems Kaneis and Sophie have that covered, anyway.]

We won't be long.

[Oh god peer pressure. He was just wondering before, but now he has to wonder if he's going to regret it.

Then again, he really can't turn down someone who's gracious enough to let him stay like this. Not much choice there. And besides, maybe he could use a hat after all. And/or a mask.]

You two be careful with Emil, okay? He's still young and fragile!

[ A nod. Of course Sophie will take that at face value. ]

['Young?' He looks about the same age as Allen, though...!

[He'll hold open the door for the others, as they head out.]

[Well, this is just embarrassing given Emil's probably the oldest one here.
