01 [video]

[This is his first time addressing people in this fashion. While he’s used to presenting in front of groups at small info swaps in Sybak, this is a whole new experience. While there’s a smile on his face, he’s a little nervous. ]

This isn’t what I had in mind when I first set out to do field research. It’s quite interesting, in any case.

[A pause. He’s had time to settle in, albeit a short amount of time, and has a general idea of what’s been going on. Hearing about the recent bombs was especially unsettling, which is why he’s outside the living quarters just looking at his surroundings. He’s eager to help out in this new place, even if he's not sure where to start. The people here had been through a lot already. It was apparent even from a casual glance at the last posts.]

For the time being, I’d like to offer my services to help reconstruction efforts in any way I can. I’ve only just arrived, but I hope I can be of some use.

[His expertise is research over anything else so while he looks useless, he can at least put a band-aid on someone. Or give them a hug. Or hold a nail while someone whacks it with a hammer. Before he ends the chat, he appears to remember something and quickly asks: ]

Are the words Tethe’Alla or Sylvarant familiar to anyone here? If it’s not any trouble, I’d like to talk to you.

From the name, I'd assume there's also some form of summoning involved.

[Ignore him attacking the obvious, Aster, he's taking notes inside. Especially regarding the creation of artificial spirits, because, well, he knows that tone of complicated. It's probably running around in the rain somewhere picking up groceries.]

The fonon sentiences of Auldrant are similar in theory, but entities with that kind of power don't seem to exist in this world. If they were to arrive here, it probably wouldn't be too difficult to harness that kind of power with the right equipment - [After all, fontech wasn't hard in theory, and they did have Jade, specialty or not.] - but finding a power source on that level would be difficult.
bloodyashes: ([F] That's because...)

AUGH MY INTERNET GAVE OUT AS I WAS POSTING THIS

A fonon sentience is a conglomeration of fonons - energy particles - that has grown large enough to develop a consciousness of its own. There's one for each of the seven fonons, but Lorelei, the sentience of the Seventh Fonon, was only confirmed to exist recently.

[Because, you know, no one thought to ask the isofons. No, they had to wait until Tear went and got herself possessed.]

For the most part, they exist in the fon belt above the planet, where fonons layer throughout the upper atmosphere. Lorelei is an exception again, having been contained in the core of the planet for the past several thousand years.

The Seventh Fonon is different from the others - although it's technically the fonon of sound, it holds power over memory, and is the source of power for a lot of our current technology. Lorelei was contained as a part of the process of forming the Planet Storm, which circled Auldrant to create more Seventh Fonons for energy.

Setting Lorelei loose of that containment was a side effect of halting the Planet Storm in order to halt the vibrations of the core that was liquifying the crust and causing the land to sink.

[Is that enough infodump for you, Aster?]

[Well this info dump is about to get really awkward, sorry Aster.]

Not as of my death.

[...Yeah, whoops. Sadly we don't have any canon information about it, really...]

WELP LET'S THREADJACK AGAIN now with copious headcanon

We're exploring a few methods, including seeking out alternate ways to generate energy from fonons such as adapting the Planet Storm's basic principles to more small scale power generators [fonological nuclear physics!], reverse engineering certain ancient technologies that were in use prior to the creation of the Planet Storm, and investigating new ways to maximize efficiency of fonon use. Certain austerity measures have also been adapted to ensure that we don't overuse what we have in the grace period before atmospheric fonon levels drop significantly.

[Aster has no idea how very relevant that is with the sudden influx of replicas. Maybe Jade will pick Aster's brain about it some other time.] Unfortunately, we don't know. Most information about the Dawn Age was lost, and many of the remaining records are fragmented. It isn't even entirely clear at what point we lost Dawn Age technology. [He's pretty sure it's 'that time we raised the land up' but he doesn't know for sure.] Some of the remnant technology has been made usable to no immediately obvious ill-effects.

[Because Aster is not asking stupid beginner questions, Luke, Jade is willing to entertain these questions. ]

At present, we're still enjoying the a grace period of increased levels of fonons from the Planet Storm. Dawn Age technology appears to be more efficient than contemporary fontech.
