[This is his first time addressing people in this fashion. While he’s used to presenting in front of groups at small info swaps in Sybak, this is a whole new experience. While there’s a smile on his face, he’s a little nervous. ]

This isn’t what I had in mind when I first set out to do field research. It’s quite interesting, in any case.

[A pause. He’s had time to settle in, albeit a short amount of time, and has a general idea of what’s been going on. Hearing about the recent bombs was especially unsettling, which is why he’s outside the living quarters just looking at his surroundings. He’s eager to help out in this new place, even if he's not sure where to start. The people here had been through a lot already. It was apparent even from a casual glance at the last posts.]

For the time being, I’d like to offer my services to help reconstruction efforts in any way I can. I’ve only just arrived, but I hope I can be of some use.

[His expertise is research over anything else so while he looks useless, he can at least put a band-aid on someone. Or give them a hug. Or hold a nail while someone whacks it with a hammer. Before he ends the chat, he appears to remember something and quickly asks: ]

Are the words Tethe’Alla or Sylvarant familiar to anyone here? If it’s not any trouble, I’d like to talk to you.

[Holy crap. He was considered a prodigy and he still didn't go until he was well into his teens. He can't even imagine going there before then-]

What, are you a half-elf or something? I've heard horror stories they snatch up kids they think are smart.

[He won't claim to be ignorant of Sybak's shady measures at times, but it's his home. When he thinks back to home, he sees smiling faces of professors and hot meals from the cafeteria. Not of his parents and their home.]

I've never seen it happen myself. I hope that's not occurring.

[But it's not like he's denying it. He never asked Richter how he came to be at Sybak, or any of the half elves for that matter. There's really no good way to ask 'hey do you have those notes and also were you baby snatched?']

Huh. Guess you're just that smart then.

[Huh. He does notice the lack of denial, so that's something at least. He could confirm it himself, buuut well he might start questioning why Zelos knows that much about the ongoing of Sybak, or half-elves for that matter.]

[Plus you know, let's not make the kid feel too horrible about their home]

Well like I said, they were just stories I heard. For all I know they were saying that just to spook people, so don't sweat it.

I wouldn't say that. Sybak has many students that exceed me in all ways.

[He can name many people that are extremely clever, Rilena and Richter included. Honestly, he's not sure how he ended up there so young. It happened so quickly when he was younger. A few tests, a couple remarks and before he knew it, he was dorming with much older people.]

...There may be some truth behind those rumors. Perhaps Richter and I can look into it once we're brought back to our world. If it's happening, it should be stopped.

[ONE THING AT A TIME THOUGH. First Emil, then this world, then Ratatosk.]

Wow, jeez give yourself some credit. I sure couldn't make it through that school now, much less when I was 9.

[....Nevermind I graduated top of my class there shhhh you don't need to know that I cheated through half of it anyway. ]

...Yeah, it should. [Aw Aster you're good people!] Half-elves got it bad enough as it is without that stuff going on.

They do. I want my home to be a safe place for everyone-half elves included. Once this is all over, I hope we make that dream into a reality.

Heh...guess so.

[Something he never seems to have enough of though. Probably why he didn't last. Though there's a pause. This guy seems like someone actually sympathetic towards half-elves, and he can't help but be curious- did the King follow through on his promise to get rid of the discriminatory laws? He hasn't heard anything, but if he was willing to pass exspheres...]

[He has to ask, even if it might seem weird that he knows something like that]

Yeah, I hope that's a reality too. [...] Have things improved at all for Half-Elves? I mean, I heard a rumor about the Chosen wanting to change some of the laws, but I don't know if that was true or not.

[ugh, did he really refer to himself in the third person? Talk about lame...]

[It is weird. So far that's the one thing that's made him question how much Kaneis actually knows. Things didn't start getting noticeably better until after the world unification, or at least that's when Aster noticed. The Chosen really impressed Aster when those things started to occur with increasing frequency.

Was he especially involved with the church or what? Did he know the Chosen or have contact with him?

After a slight pause, he answers the question.]

The partner I've been talking about is a half elf. We've done everything together for some time now.

[Which should say something. It also (helps?) that prejudice has shifted to Sylvaranti too lately, though half elves certainly weren't forgotten in this whole scenario.]

Yes, it's true. I imagine it's been difficult going against many years of discrimination, but things are improving. Now it's up to the people to accept the changes.

[Whatever Aster you'll never guess who it is neener neener]

[But he's glad this is voice, since his expression definitely shows something that'd probably give him away. Things were actually improving...what he did actually did something. That the king didn't brush him off. He wonders if it will be the same in his world with him not around- will the King still follow up? ]

Really, huh? ...I'm glad, I had my doubts when I heard about it.

[He doesn't know...but there's a chance, right? Especially if there were people like Aster who cared about this too. It wasn't just them disagreeing with the entire world.]

Well, Tethe'allans hold onto things for a long time...but hey, if there's people like you? A human who'll partner up with a half-elf and treat them as a friend? Then maybe there's others that'll accept change too.

[This conversation was unexpected, but it makes him happy nonetheless. If Kaneis is this interested in the future of half elves, maybe he wouldn't be upset about the unification either. As much as he loved his homeland, Tethe'alla could be downright cruel to whoever they deemed outsiders. Finding another person here who didn't share those tendencies was a relief.]

...Yes, I hope that's the case as well.

[For many reasons, actually. For the Sylvaranti too. There was so much chaos going on in the world, for good reason, but Aster is desperately clinging to the hope everyone will come together, especially after Ratatosk helps balance the world again. Aster pauses for another moment before adding:]

The Chosen has his hands full, but I'm confident he'll push our world in the right direction. He's proven he has the courage to at least try.

[Therefore ~*~*dreams will become reality*~*~*~]

[Courage...yeah. Right.]

[He's not really sure how to answer this. Sure, he's pretty sure he wasn't the most hated Chosen in all of Tethe'alla's history- but he wasn't exactly what you'd call beloved either. From what he saw, most people considered him to be a mistake, a failure (at least among the nobles). It's why he was so sure Seles would've made the better Chosen- because he was so miserable at it.]

[But to hear someone talking well of him as a Chosen, and confidence in him...it's oddly nice to hear. Like when Lloyd said he was a fine Chosen after he made up that story about Spiritua. Not sure how that stuff made him a fine Chosen, but...still, it was nice to hear.]

[Though this is Zelos, who doesn't really know how to take compliments. So he'll do a run around self-deprecating approach]

Heh, well that's nice to know. And here I was before willing to bet 50 Gald he was too busy ogling girls to even know the rumor existed.

But hey, thanks for letting me know.

[Aster can't comment on much of the Chosen's personal life, so that information could be true. In fact, outside of wondering about the occasional chosen-ish stuff, he's stayed pretty focused on other things. It wasn't until the Chosen started coming out for the equal treatment of half elves that he really started to pay attention. Before that, it was just whispered gossip through the halls he overheard time to time.

That all said, he does want to meet him someday. Maybe Richter would like to come as well though Aster's not 100% sure he'd be able to get audience with him. The guy seemed pretty busy. ]

You're welcome, Kaneis. Maybe the Chosen will arrive here someday and we can ask him more about it.

[He snorts. Yeah. Maybe that Zelos everyone talks about will show up. Wouldn't that be nice?]

I kinda hope not. Dealing with a celebrity sounds like it'd be a pain.

[Aster laughs quietly at that. ]

I'm sure it wouldn't be that bad.

Yeah? You can deal with him then.

[GLADLY.]

Hm. I wonder if he would even take audience with me.

[HE'S NOT EVEN HERE YET ASTER.

THIS ISN'T EVEN TETHE'ALLA.]

[Whut. Aster just. whut. Did he even take "audiences" with people back home? He's pretty sure he just went and did what he wanted and talked to who he wanted.]

[Then again he was never good at being traditional. Aw well]

Ahahaha, uh Aster...we're not in Tethe'alla? So you know, if he showed up here he wouldn't have the same political powers or schedule or anything. He'd be just like us.

So you know, there'd be no audiences- you just call him up if you wanna talk to him!

[DEAD SILENCE AS THAT SINKS IN.]

[Then happy voice. So happy. Though Aster doubts he could just call up the Chosen for an answer to every 2AM question he thought up. But at the very least there would be an opportunity for it.]

That's true! That title wouldn't mean much here. I suppose I'll have to wait and see if he arrives.

[Except Zelos should totally stay in Tethe'alla and keep doing his equality work.]

[For a second he's afraid he broke the poor child with that notion. Was there some religious taboo against calling up the Chosen? He doesn't know really, there's so many stupid rules and taboos he can't even keep track of them all, and he's been learning them since he could crawl. ]

[But relief comes when Aster speaks. He geeeets the feeling getting him to treat a Chosen like a regular person won't be easy as just saying one thing- BUT STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION]

[Though still not telling you bro. It's probably for your own good really]

Ahaha yeah, but who knows if he will! Don't count your omletes before they cook!

[Or was it chickens before they hatch? Blegh, he's never good at proverbs]

[Either way, whatever Kaneis is saying makes perfect sense. Aster's pretty surprised neither of the Chosens seem to be here, all things considered. The transports picked must really be random. With a quiet laugh himself, Aster says:]

I will keep that in mind.

Heh, good.

Anyway, I better get going. But we'll talk again soon, okay?

Yes, thank you for your time Kaneis.
