I miss home. I know that's normal, I know - I know there's nothing that can be done about it. I try to keep that in mind so it won't get to me so much. Everyone is so nice and helpful, even with everything going on. I'm very thankful, and - I would like to think I have made some friends.

[There's a pause, and he sighs softly. He suddenly isn't sure why he decided to start this feed.]

It's weird... one of the things I miss the most is hearing my language. [a little exhale, followed by a contradictory smile.] I wasn't used to speaking English for so long until I came here.

... Are all of you from English-speaking countries?

Nothing I'm fluent in. I pick up some things from other languages, though. European.

It's easy, with the Romance languages. That's why I can kind of understand French — got Spanish and some Latin under my belt. [A pause, then:] How long've you been here?

A few months. So you know Latin?

I can read it okay.

[Wow, what's that? Actual modesty?]

Studied it a bit in college and carried it with me through grad and law school. It stuck.

[Law school. That makes a little more sense.]

Do you practice?

I did. I'm still very much a lawyer, just... practice-less, at the moment. Hard to work with the legal system when there isn't one, y'know?

Really? I thought there would be - something.

Something is one word for it. How long've you been here?

A couple of months? Not very long. Why?
