003 ↔ joint post; video
[The feed clicks on to reveal the following: Saul Goodman, seated oh-so-casually atop a salvaged wooden desk in an office that looks a lot like every other office in the Hold. His hands are folded in front of him, he's bent slightly forward in an invitational sort of posture, and he's smiling. The only thing weird about this picture is the fact that he's seated abnormally off-center, almost like there should be someone next to him.
But there isn't.]
Good evening, Exsilium. I'm Saul Goodman, and this —
[He looks to his side.
Frowns.]
Excuse me.
[Saul disappears from view, mumbling something along the lines of "this is why we shouldn't have done it live," then begins speaking to whoever it is that's hiding off-camera. The conversation, though hushed, is almost fully audible: it's Medusa he's speaking with, and she does not sound happy.]
We discussed this! You're supposed to be there with me! It's important that they see you. You're the director.
We discussed announcing the existence of this office to the population, not staging a performance.
[ There's a very distinct sound that, if anyone knows anything about Medusa, can probably be attributed to the movement of a very large amount of hair. ]
If you are incapable of approaching this professionally, Mister Goodman, then perhaps I should do the entire announcement myself.
Yeah? You think that's — okay, sure. Fine. Be my guest.
[He ducks back into the camera's view and extends his arms in a properly theatrical, introductory gesture.]
Citizens of Exsilium, I give you the director of your brand new Department of Initiative-Transport Relations, her royal highness, Queen Medusa.
[ Medusa moves into screen - hair filling out the rest of the space that she doesn't occupy like usual. ]
DITR exists to serve as a bridge between the transport population and the Initiative itself; we are here to provide information and encourage the growth of trust between the two by creating further transparency on all levels. Saul Goodman, Susan Storm, Alice Roscha, Tintin, Feferi Peixes, and myself have dedicated our time to ensure this venture succeeds.
[Saul straightens his suit as Medusa speaks, then nods his head toward the camera with a smile so tight it's almost a smirk.]
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us via your tablets or visit us at our office in the Hold. Thank you for your time.
[End transmission.]

/now private
[And here Saul is actually interested, enough that he switches the feed over to private to continue this conversation.]
Doing what?
/until otherwise!
Codebreaking, back in the Cold War. Stakes got too high though, and I got out. Didn't want anyone innocent caught in the middle if I could help it.
[which is the honest truth, if not the whole of it]

[Color him legitimately impressed. That's an accomplishment, Artie. Well done!]
So you switched from that to archiving? I guess I can see a vague connection, but jeez. Talk about a downgrade.
no subject
[and yep, that's all he's gonna say about it]
How about you, what did you do before all this?
no subject
Saul likes this guy.]
I was, and remain, a criminal defense attorney. My new emphasis is less on the criminal defense part, but my legal expertise has proven surprisingly useful.
[Y'know, in spite of the anarchy.]

Surprisingly seems like the right adverb, in all honesty. Didn't think there'd be much use for legalese in a place like this.
no subject
I try not to speak in legalese, Mr. Nielsen. I like to think I'm straightforward.
[Except for the part where he is also a keeper of way too many secrets and lies through his teeth about them all the time.]
Anyway, it hasn't been so much legal advice as it's been... tips on how to watch one's ass, so to speak.
no subject
And if you're really a straightforward lawyer, then I can officially say I've seen everything.
no subject
he just winked]
If you ever need my services, I'm here to help.
no subject
I'll definitely keep it in mind. And I guess I should expect you calling me up if you have a code you can't break, now, too?
no subject
[Though Saul would be pretty surprised if that were a thing.]
Got any other useful skills I should know about?
no subject
[yes, he's useful. no, you're not going to know about it. yet.]
