[ She was bored. So very bored. She wasn't training, because that's what they wanted from her, and the last thing Merida wanted to do was satisfy the people who wanted her to fight for them. She wouldn't do it. She wouldn't! And that was the end of it.

However, this didn't leave her with much to do. She wandered the city, even explored a bit of the Outlands, but she didn't go far. She was daring, but she wasn't stupid. She knew this world was dangerous, and she didn't want to lose her head without a good reason.

So she finally takes the painstaking time to learn to use the strange device she had been given upon her arrival. It took her plenty of attempts to get it working properly, and even when she does, there are several segments of very brief footage of the redheaded princess growling at her tablet in frustration. ]

Oi, is it working now? About time. [ She clears her throat. ] I want someone to tell me more about the land outside this city. [ It was much too crowded, too cluttered here. She wanted a freer space. ] A good place to explore, t'actually, you know, move around - that's what I'm lookin' for. How do you even stand it in this city?

[ She taps her chin. ] An' while you're at it, tell me what you do around here t'keep busy. I'm goin' out of m'mind.

"Near as I can tell the land outside the city is dangerous. Been lookin to get the gear together to check more personal like but unless you're pretty good with a pulse rifle I reckon it'd be best to get a group to check that out."

[ She has no idea what a pulse rifle isn't is. Nor was she a team player. ] Those're my only options? Are you bein' serious?

"Only smart options probably. Not sayin doin the smart thing is always the right thing."

He shrugs a bit.

Well, I'm not exactly achin' to get killed, am I? What's out there that's so dangerous, anyway?

"Heard stories of ants the size of bears and other wild things like that."

You're pullin' m'leg.

[ ...Right?

There couldn't possibly really be ants the size of bears, could there? ]

"Ma'am, I don't know you well enough to pull your leg. I just know what I've heard from com chatter."

Sooo, you've never actually been out there yourself?

"I grew up in a desert wasteland, know better than to go out without provisions and spare ammunition. Been saving up for it but haven't gotten all the gear I need together yet."

You really think you'll need all that?

"If you want to actually leave the city area, yeah. I think most of the interestin stuff close to the city's all ready been picked pretty much clear."

So on the outskirts it's not truly wild, hm? [ That was disappointing. ]

"Nah, not really. Some people still scavenge it so it ain't what I'd call wild. Been to wilder bars."

But that must mean there's somethin' out there worth taking.

"Or hungry people who don't have much but hope to go on and are at the end of their ropes. I figure you want to find actual useful things you gotta go to a place that ain't picked over all the time."

Then that's where I'll go.

"Then you better find yourself a few friends and some supplies. I know the unknown can be tempting, but gettin back to the known should be just as tempting."

Have you seen this city? I dinno how anyone could think it about this place.

"I'm guessin you've never been on the wrong side of the law. I've lived in a lot worse places in the past. This ain't a nice place, but its a place that ain't lookin to kill you."

S'pose not. Not terribly reassurin', though, is it?

"World is a funny place like that kid."

At least this world is, you mean.

"Most I'd think, unless yer rich or royal. Can't say I know much about either of them."

Oi, being royal isn't all it's cracked up to be.

"Aha.. So ya are a princess. Nothin's cracked up to be what people think it is and the grass is always greener on the other side I guess. Still, there's a certain degree of safety in it."
