Uh, I already got the run-down from that spooky-weapons-lady a little earlier, but I’m guessing I didn’t get everything about this place because all this? Still makes no sense. So if there’s anything I should know... [He trails off, gaze diverted up into the sky. He tears his eyes away from whatever he's looking at to address the network again.] Aaaanyway, I'm starting to get used enough to this place that I know I'm not gonna make it home in time for dinner anytime soon, but I still want to hear how legit all this is from people who don't actually benefit from spoon feeding me this in--

[He's staring up again. There is a definite boom, and Jaime's eyes widen as he ducks his head as if that will somehow protect him from any debris] Did that spaceship just explode--

[Fade to black as Jaime unceremoniously shoves the device into his pocket, though he does announce his apparent survival a little after the hubbub is wrapped up with the voice-only addition of:] Next time I say I'm even starting to think about getting used to this place, someone should probably hit me. Are exploding spaceships just a thing here?

I meant from what I gather it is about a year or so that people first started showing up here, or that is probably about how long most of us transports remember if not after that. I could be wrong there though. I've only been here two or three months myself, like I said.

Oh. Huh. I really should take another look at all the info on this thing that lady gave us, huh? But man, being stuck here for a year... they're really serious about us not being able to get back home.

Some have possibly been here longer. But from what I gather there are not too many that have been here for that length of time. Some can be sent home, but as far as we can tell, it is not under our control that we can be sent back if and whenever we want to.

That much I've gotten. Just from talking to a few of the other new people here, I'm not sure how many people would be left if we were given a chance to go home.

Well, some might stay, I suppose, if this place is better than what might be waiting for them back home, perhaps. Or if they were taken from after they died back home or something.

Yeah. Maybe. Even people from places that stink might have family back home. And that'd cut down the population to, what, fifty percent?

...Wait, they bring back dead people here? Time machines to grab them right before they die is one thing, but that sounds like straight-up magic to me.

I don't know. But there is likely at least a few here that might prefer to stay here, for whatever reason.

....Well, you are aware people from various points in time and various worlds are brought here, so it is really that much of a surprise?

[Heck, Hisoka himself is proof of that. Although he has not actually stated this in public yet, that he technically died at least two years ago and is now a shinigami.]

Yeah, actually, it is. If I've got all my sci-fi stuff straight, you'd use a time machine to save or kidnap someone before they died, not after, or else there's nothing left to save. That's the whole point in changing history, right? If you're grabbing people from after they die, that makes it some kind of weird necromancer time machine unless it can access the afterlife or something.

[Which is opening up another can of beans, because even if Jaime's in Church every Sunday and has technically faced down no less than two agents of God, the afterlife as a concrete place is something of a mystery to him.

...Plus, if they picked up people from the dead, he'd be expecting a whole lot more grandmas and grandpas hobbling around the place.]

Who says this place needs to go by the sci-fi rules that you know? I suppose that would be true in theory, but who knows with this crazy ai and all, bringing in people from all over the place and different times.

True. But as long as we're here, I've gotta run by some version of logic until someone else can explain it better. [He flashes a slightly self-deprecating grin at that, which probably better conveys that he just wants to try to make it fit into some modicum of supposed normalcy.] Either way, I don't think they're about to sit down and explain it to us.

That would be too convenient, really. You saw how quickly they leave us to fend for ourselves after they give us the tour of sorts.
