yeah, it is weird they'd choose to come down from the north. not like anywhere outside the populated places is any better than any other.

There is no obvious benefit. There is also no obvious or subtle secondary invasion moving through the location toward the Hold. With past United Earth objectives in mind, the only value gained in terrorizing the Exile population relates to concepts of psychological warfare and attempts to break morale.

( Which is off pattern. Very off pattern, without something thrusting for the Hold at the same time. )
