[Axel doesn't usually feel the need to hide his face--he's gotten good at concealing his thoughts and making sure he doesn't give himself away... but everyone has a breaking point. Waking up to find Roxas' room as empty as Xion's suddenly was a less than a month ago is apparently his. He has to keep reminding himself that he doesn't have a heart, this can't actually hurt, it's only residual phantom pains, leftovers of memories... So why can't he just make it stop?

[There's a beat of silence, and then his voice sort of tumbles into the recording, like he tripped over his own tongue. His tone is a little strained, as if his throat hurts or he swallowed something terribly bitter.]

How often do people come and go from this place? I've noticed there seems to be a lot of turnover. A good number of people leave, a bunch of new faces show up, but sometimes old faces show up too. Is there any sort of pattern anyone's found?

Immortal, huh? [He sounds a little less enthused about the idea than he might otherwise. He always did like the sound of immortality--it's why he sought to make sure everyone remembered him, so he could live forever in their memories--but living forever without your friends around doesn't sound so great.] So can I ask how long you've been alive?

Well, of course. Just over two and a half centuries.

[ He'd give him the whole story, but, eh, to date, he's written two autobiographies and was about to start his third when he arrived here. And apparently, most people in this world has read them, only someone named 'Anne Rice' plagiarized it almost verbatim. Not that he's complaining. Even people in other worlds should hear the story of the Vampire Lestat! ]

[A low, appraising whistle.] Wow. That's quite a lifetime. Don't you ever get bored?

Not often, no.

I'd probably spend a lot of time napping, to be frank. I mean, when you potentially have forever, why do now what you can put off 'til after you've napped?

I spent many of my first years as a vampire reading. I was illiterate as a mortal, and I wished to correct that.

Huh. I suppose that's a good use of the time. [He sounds interested, not disdainful. He enjoys a good book himself, for that matter.]

How'd you wind up immortal, then? If you used to be mortal, what changed?

[Yeah, he's being nosy, but immortality is relevant to his interests.]

Didn't I tell you? I'm a vampire.

[ Said incredibly casually. ]

[Oh.]

... Wait you meant a literal vampire?

I wasn't aware that there were any other kinds of vampires.

... I thought you were making some kind of obtuse metaphor or something.

Not at all. I'm quite serious.

Huh. Well I'll be damned, a real-live vampire.

Or, well. I guess not exactly live, right? [How do you classify a vampire? 'Undead' sounds so... zombie...]

On the contrary, I feel more alive now than I ever did as a mortal.
