I used to have dreams like this.

Well, not exactly like this, I mean. Nothing so specific. But you know how it goes, don't you? Girl dislikes her situation, the way her life is going, the way people treat her, wishes she were anywhere else but there. Then a strange thing occurs, and there's this whole other world that needs her, specifically her. This place sees her for who she is, sees her strengths and the change she wants, and it tells her that she's needed to save this other world. Protect it. She's the only one who can. Like a hero, a ruler, or something else. That part changes pretty easily, I think.

There's a lot of stories like that, too, of course. I don't think I'm the only one who's had a dream like that. We all have our little unhappinesses. And sometimes the new kingdom, she loves it so much she never wants to go home. Sometimes being there just makes her miss everything she left behind, and she does everything she can to go back.

Of course, when I say I used to have dreams like this, that would mean I woke up from them, too.

I suppose this is like that. In a way. It's been almost three weeks now, but I guess I'm still trying to get used to it, that's all.

What were your dreams? Did you have them? Or do you, still? Whatever they are, or were, I hope you keep in mind that you can't trust them. There's no Truth to dreams.

Ancestors would imply we've lived long enough for any of us to die of natural causes. But yes, it does include the experiences and memories of those that have passed by other means.

How do you cope, with the absence of them?

[There's a pause before she responds.]

I try to keep busy. If I stay busy and positive I'm peachy. Even if it's freezing here and there's no sunlight and it's far too wet.

It hasn't even been a month and I miss it already. The sun, I mean.

I've been here since um...I can't even remember anymore. Too long! Brambles...sometimes I forget what the sun even feels like.

Brambles?

Oh um...it's like "blast" or "drat".

That seemed like it might have been the case, but I didn't want to presume.

Thorns is another we tend to use in such a case.

There's a focus on plant material, in your interjections. Roses?

What about roses? [Now she's just confused!]

Um...well, that's probably because we're kind of plants ourselves?

Brambles and thorns are associated with many different kinds of plants, where I'm from, but the most common is roses, rose bushes, those sorts of things.

"Kind of" plants?

Oh...yeah.

[A pause.] Weeeeell... [She turns on the video and she very much looks like she's made of plant.] We sylvari are more closely related to plants than any kind of animal.

Oh, wow. I'm sorry if I'm being a pest, with the way I'm reacting, but I feel I'm really out of my depth here.

[She gives a sheepish laugh as she rubs the back of her head.]

It's okay. I'm kind of used to people being really curious.

I can only imagine. I'm sorry.

There's no need to apologize, you've done nothing wrong. Being curious is only natural and it's something that should be embraced. After all, how will you ever learn anything new if you're not curious?

That may be true, but there are different ways to express curiosity. Asking endless questions instead of, for example, quietly observing something for a while, isn't usually welcome all the time.

But observing only works for so much.
