[Hooray, Jesse is finally awake and home after his half-week holiday with hookers and meth. This of course means he's looking extra groggy, red around the eyes, and not exactly the most cheerful. Which makes the following message a little dissonant:]

Hey, so... - Hey, hi, I'm Jesse. If you're new.

Anyway, um, I know I talked to a few of you earlier about maybe some baking lessons? I was thinking probably, since in a couple weeks we'll have a whole 'nother shipment of new guys, we'll practice making cookies for 'em.

Some of you saw me this last time, right? I had like this whole setup with a tent? I was thinking we could do that again, but bigger this time. Or if you don't wanna be out in the cold all day, we could set up in the lobby downstairs, like right when people come in to find their units? I dunno. I'm just thinking out loud.

Anybody into that, though? Like on the 28th or something we get together and make some cookies? Assuming nobody bombs us or anything.

What if you did somethin' to'em? [She's trying to hide that smirk.]

You don't think somebody woulda mentioned it by now if I did?

[freewoman]

An' you think I spend all my time on this stupid thing, just hopin' someone'll drop your name?

[She's fiesty.]

D'they taste good?

Of course they do. Probably the best you'll find around here.

We didn't have many sweets above the Wall. Sugar's a rare thing. We had honey in the warm months though. Some of the southern villages would have bees. Haven't had honeyed bread since I was little though.

[hostage]

Damn, seriously? Okay, you have got to try some of these cookies, then, 'cause that is like... too sad.

[freewoman]

We don't have much above the Wall. Whatever we take or can make ourselves, cut off from the south. You're only lucky t'not be one o' Craster's wives.

Should I even ask?

[freewoman]

His wives are his daughters. Every time he lays with one o' them, he marries'em.

[hostage]

Jesus...

[Yeah, he looks nauseated.]

Like I said, I'm lucky in some regards. The North, the true North, is a harsh place.

[hostage]

No kidding... You must be glad to get outta there, huh?

[freewoman]

No. Not at all. I was free.

[hostage]

Were you really free if you were scared all the time?

[freewoman]

I'm a spearwife, a free woman. No one can take that away from me. It's harsh above the Wall, and they put up that Wall to keep what's in the North in the North, but I kneel to no one, I choose my leaders, and I know what's comin', what men fear.

[freewoman]

[She levels her look at him.] The Others. When the long night comes, dead men walk. They're made of ice and they make you one o' them when they gut you.

Zombies?

[freewoman]

I've heard that word used for'em here. They're made o' ice and death.

[hostage]

So, wait... You'd seriously rather be in Night of the Living Dead than be here?

[freewoman]

I'd rather be fightin' a war that's mine.
