Two truths and a lie used to be big with my friends. You say three "facts" about you or things you've done or seen. People try to pick one out as a lie, and then it's their turn to do the same thing. For example:

1. I've been crocodile wrestling.
2. I once flunked a vocabulary test because I forgot to put my name on the top.
3. I crashed a dune buggy when I was twelve and despite totaling the dune buggy, the worst I ended up with was a badly scraped up elbow.

[He smiles and leans back against the headboard of his bed, shirtless. Apparently, sleep is evading him too.]

Can't sleep, Collette?

It's like I just can't quite get the hang of it tonight, or something. Must be the excitement of everyone new coming in.

( She suspects otherwise, but hey, good enough excuse. She smiles, a lopsided sort of grin. )

What's your excuse?

[governorkang]

[His smile turns a little wistful, and he shrugs.]

I'm not used to sleeping alone.

( She pauses for a beat -- not for thinking that it's odd someone as different looking has important people, since with the aliens she knows and the love the Hork-Bajir show it's not that which is surprising. She's just... not thought how hard it has to be on people with loved ones of that sort back home. )

Are you married?

[governorkang]

I have a mate. My kind doesn't marry; she can get rid of me anytime she wants.

[From his tone, it's pretty obvious that it probably won't be for a very long time, and he's quite happy with that.]

Sometimes the younglings insist on spending the night with us too.

You have kids! How many? How old are they?

[governorkang]

Two males and two females, just a day over four.

You had quintuplets?

[governorkang]

[At that, he laughs.]

Eggs, Collette. Four or five seems to be the average number. Some of the females have had six or seven in one clutch.

[whatsupcroc]

( Pause: consider. Then grin. )

Sorry, that's my bad! I was thinking like how people have kids. That's a nice sized clutch! What're your kids names?

[governorkang]

People like humans, dwarves, and elves.

[He's nice about, figuring that Collette really didn't mean anything by it. Many of the humans in Exsilium seem to be from worlds where they are the only race.]

The females are Yana and Kali. The males are Grosk and Brevo.

Well you're people too, so I guess what I should say is.. huh. Different species, different ways?

( She's trying to think if the taxxons aren't born in clutches, or how Yeerks procreate. Um.

Major ew. Trolls were a butterfly species, so that was interesting... )

Those are nice names! Do they have any particular meanings?

[Kang smiles, and shakes his head.]

No particular meanings.

What about your w-- your mate? What's her name?

Her name is Fonrar. And you? Do you have anyone at home?

I've got my friends, and my brother. He's in Germany with his wife right now, but he'll be back one of these days. Until then, it's me and Kelly and James and Timmy and the other guys.

[governorkang]

[He smiles, and decides to change the subject. It's depressing talking about people they miss at four in the morning.]

So, this game of yours. I'll guess that the third one is the lie.

( She smiles. )

Good guess! Makes it your turn now, Kang.

As for mine..

One: I get seasick. Two: I have catapulted a dead-drunk minotaur at a copper dragon in the middle of battle. Three: I don't like sweet things.

None of them, actually. It was an example of what could be said!

Okay, woah, I want to hear the story behind two if it's true! As for the guess... maybe... three!

[governorkang]

Very sneaky.

[He laughs and shakes his head.]

No, it's the first one. I've never been on a boat. I'll be happy to tell you the story about the minotaur another time.

You've never been on a boat, and you know you'll get seasick?

( She grins, though she nods and siiiighs. )

Okay, but I'll hold you to that! One of these days, I'm hearing about this minotaur catapulting! Though I guess it means it's my turn, and for a real one this time.

( She considers, tapping a finger on her chin. )

I can french braid my own hair, my mother was the youngest of six children, and I have never celebrated a birthday during school.

I'll guess... the first one.

[Simply because he has no idea what french braiding is.]

( Not exactly, but estranged family Collette's never met isn't much of a family. )
