Happy New Year, according to the calendar in use in Exsilium. May the next year bring glad tidings.

To anyone interested in learning basic self defense, I've spoken with Police Commissioner Sorenstam and will be starting classes through the station for any willing to attend. It's open to everyone, which means rubbing elbows with the exiles who live here, and provided cost free.

Classes will be running Mondays and Wednesdays at 0800, 1000, and 1600, starting the 21st.

I have no idea what your reference means, but hey, as long as we don't need someone indexing, being able to read is a good place to start. I can reference you some interesting files in the library if you want to learn more about human psychology, as well as recommend quiet observation time without predispositions. One of the two is more achievable than the other.

Probably she could have forgone them entirely, but a measure of a pretense at respect would be easier to work with than the ruffled feathers of a man insulted when she'd offered, worlds ago, to help him defeat a dragon. )

Are you asking for yourself? In general I don't feel any more advanced classes are merited at this time, but I'm more than happy to work one on one with people who already have the basics down and are looking to be challenged and continue improving their self-defense skills.

( She's careful not to mention offensive skills -- she certainly knows a variety, but Sakura isn't planning to make that her point of contact with anyone from the start. Self defense carries a different meaning than the fighting skills given in training to any shinobi. They are, after all, those who are hired to defend and to kill. Self-defense is only a part of their entire repertoire. )

I've taught before, and those I taught were able to use the skills they were learning to good effect. I'm reasonably certain I'll be a good instructor to anyone willing to spend time doing the work.

I plan on helping teach people to recognize dangerous situations before throwing themselves headlong into them, and to know basic means of breaking away from a person or several persons trying to detain them unwillingly. The basics are geared toward people who aren't fighters.

( Which is to say it's not about an offense in a classic sense of the idea of combative offenses. )

It's part of helping them learn to be more effective survivors. Help people gain confidence in their ability to handle themselves under pressure, and think clearly enough to get out of dangerous situations as best they can.

Hmm, well, it was nothing big. I did do a few action scenes (ninja, superheroes), but I really didn't do any fighting myself. So...

Doing stunt work means knowing how to judge distances and have good timing, as well as knowing things like how to break your own fall without hurting yourself seriously. You know more than you're giving yourself credit for, I bet!

You'll have the most trouble with the first. Most people don't have that clarity of thought. [as if he can talk. but no, there's a difference between acts of bravery and acts of stupidity.] What of training with arms? Have you any plans to introduce weaponry, or will you focus only on the defense?

A loose t-shirt and exercise or sports shorts or leggins are simplest. If there's athletic clothing that deals with helping cool down a body or wick away sweat, you may prefer to invest in something along those lines.
