Either ways, his silence was broken by one simple text to the network:]
What is a hero to you? I know it's a broad question, but you don't have to answer if you don't want to.

A hero is someone who has performed valorous deeds, often in battle. The slaying of a great beast, protecting the people or the land from danger, ridding the world of an evil force--all of these things are heroic deeds.
text;
[Because that's exactly the person he wants to become.]
...But to what extent would those deeds be heroic?

[He muttered it to himself, before actually typing up a reply to the...girl that just spoke to him. It's not like he doesn't want to talk, but he just feels a bit awkward talking about it in the open.]
Then, isn't that the same as being selfless and selfish at the same time?
[...Selfless as they don't care about themselves, and yet selfish as they only wanted the safety of someone else.]

If they're called a hero, they've done someone some good.
The closest you get to a real hero isn't called one at all, far as I care.

( he thinks, or he hopes. )
Rather than being about flashy displays or dangerous feats, I believe it's much more simple. Becoming someone's hero can be as simple as holding a door open for them when they need it. Having a genuine desire to help people is what distinguishes a heroic person from one who isn't.

Alternatively, that means not everyone will agree with a hero's deeds.

[Yeah, that tends to be a thing he saw in his life, especially concerning a woman that should not be mentioned lest we break RP taboos...!]

But as for me, a hero is someone who's willing to do the right thing for others. It doesn't matter if they save someone from a burning building, pilot a mech to defend their home, or lift the spirits of a distraught crowd through peace.
[text]
What if someone's forced to do such things under a circumstance? Do they still count as heroes?
[He's not that kind of person, but a hypothetical question was posed regardless.]

is somebody whose intentions are noble, I think.
[He doesn't sound entirely sure, like he's left the thought half-finished; it's not something he's spent much time mulling over. There has to be more to it... He just knows that he doesn't consider himself a hero, because he doesn't think he's very noble. But perhaps somebody who is—?]
Why do you ask?

Someone who helps because it's the right thing to do, not because of anything selfish.
