003; Heroes

[Text]
[He's been training through these months, taking a break when he's able to during the festivities, but other than that, he was pretty much scarce in terms of meeting someone new or even just talking to those he's met.

Either ways, his silence was broken by one simple text to the network:]

What is a hero to you? I know it's a broad question, but you don't have to answer if you don't want to.

[Hello. One of Nathaniel's favorite subjects.]

A hero is someone who has performed valorous deeds, often in battle. The slaying of a great beast, protecting the people or the land from danger, ridding the world of an evil force--all of these things are heroic deeds.

There are rarely heroes, only men. But if pressed, it is someone who performs great feats at arms, or great works in general. Typically in the defense or support of something worthwhile. Someone who performed a great feat of arms for an evil reason would be a monster, though he'd be a hero to those that agreed with him. The question, as with many things, depends entirely on your point of view.

A hero is a person that is too foolish not to walk away and makes all the wrong decisions at the right time. Generally, they are at the wrong place at the worst time but manage to survive by making those bad decisions with the perfect storm effect of little to no loss of life. Of course, it doesn't hurt if there is press involved.

My personal definition; a limelight stealer.

That's an easy one. A hero is someone who thinks of other people before themselves and is willing to do what it takes to protect other people! Even if those people don't need protecting, it's the thought that matters.

If they call themselves a hero, they're either a blowhard, a scammer, or they're cursed to get stuck in a loop and never get anything done.

If they're called a hero, they've done someone some good.

The closest you get to a real hero isn't called one at all, far as I care.

Being a hero is something anyone can do.

( he thinks, or he hopes. )

Rather than being about flashy displays or dangerous feats, I believe it's much more simple. Becoming someone's hero can be as simple as holding a door open for them when they need it. Having a genuine desire to help people is what distinguishes a heroic person from one who isn't.

One who has fought to protect others, whether they live or die in the process. One who would fight for their kin and that of others. Or one who would love a child, whether that child be theirs or another. Who would comfort one who is saddened or hurt. Heroism has many definitions. It would be easier to name heroes if only I were able to name all those who have fought in wars to protect others.

[She could say so much more if she wanted to but no, this will do.]

Too many definitions! Everyone will always think differently on such things.

But as for me, a hero is someone who's willing to do the right thing for others. It doesn't matter if they save someone from a burning building, pilot a mech to defend their home, or lift the spirits of a distraught crowd through peace.

A hero...

is somebody whose intentions are noble, I think.

[He doesn't sound entirely sure, like he's left the thought half-finished; it's not something he's spent much time mulling over. There has to be more to it... He just knows that he doesn't consider himself a hero, because he doesn't think he's very noble. But perhaps somebody who is—?]

Why do you ask?

A hero is a title awarded to someone who does not give up no matter the difficulties they may encounter. Even if destiny itself appears to be against them, they continue moving forward in order to accomplish whatever is necessary for the greater good and, through their bravery, they earn the respect of the masses.
